And where did that chicken come from, if it were not from a fully evolved chicken egg? The actual answer is that both evolved simultaneously until something that was almost entirely chicken like laid an egg that would bare the first chicken. The answer is irrelevant as it would be impossible to find the actual first ever chicken. The gradual change from something almost entirely like but not quite a chicken to actual chicken would be impossible to detect. But, as a thought process, the processes involved in mutating the "not quite a chicken" DNA into "definitely a chicken" DNA would have occured during fertilisation and initial production of the egg. So, an egg from a "not quite a chicken" would have been laid that would have produced the first "definitely a chicken." Of course, in reality it is not quite this simple, but you get the general idea. Side: egg

If you're an evolutionist, the egg came first, since within the egg was the mutation that would eventually become the first member of the chicken species. If you're a Bible-hugger or something similar, God must have created the chicken first; an egg without a mother could not have survived. Although I'm sure God can fix that. Side: egg
