Which country is better? Japan or USA?

Judge it any way you wish, but allow someone who judges froma different criteria to then apply their judging system to your argument.

E.g

1st person: This country is better because of it's technological might....

2nd person: But the other country is clearly more liek Britain hence it's superiority

(Correct way to respond)

1st person: Actually my country is not only more advanced but more British than your country...

(Incorrect way to respond)

1st person: I  was talking about military might, therefore all your statements are irrelevant and I automatically win!

Hope this improves the debate, also the nuking of another country doesn't make the offending country superior in any way, please refrain from using that argument within debate.

Holy smokes!!! Did you see that? You are talking about economy, millitary, size, population. Are that factors which can prove that who is better? so okey. I will try to prove that Japan is better by another way)))

-Culture

Japan has a rich cultural heritage. Garden places, Castles, Samurais, Tradition are their History

-Technology (you have said about it but will repeat it again)

They have the newest inventions, gadgets, robots etc.

They have a wonderful public transportation system.

-They do not suffer from obesity and they have unic folk foods.

Everyone in Japan is skinny and healthy looking. Their food is not particularly healthy, but the portions are small and everyone walks miles each day to and from train stations.

-There is basically NO CRIME, they don’t have a lot of crimefighting to do. Japan is so safe that people leave their bikes everywhere unlocked with their belongings in the baskets.

It's hard to determine which country is better, but I think Japan has some major points in its favor. It has a better education system, less than 5% of U.S. violence, technological might, and is currently the biggest lender of foreign cash. And of course, it's economy doesn't suck. In the broadest terms, Japan's a modern democracy with traditional values (sort of like old World Western America) and it hasn't been as corrupted as the United States in general terms. So yeah, I think Japan's better overall although the United States has it's selling points.

I probably didn't explain this as well as I should have. It's just... Japan has the lowest rate of unemployment because their businesses are tailored to literally make workers family. A worker in Japan is rarely laid off because

a) they have huge reserves of cash on hand for reasons like this,

b) government welfare checks go directly to the company to compensate for the salary which are paid to workers and reduce the humiliation of being laid off,

c) money is determined by age and experience which leads to less generational conflicts as the old mentor the young

d) They have made getting a job after you finish college and becoming an adult a national holiday complete with bazaars, sales, ceremonies, etc.

e) they overprice everything so that no pone will have to be laid off. And why do most of the Japanese not protest this inflation of common goods? Easy. It's better for the society as a whole.

f) No board meeting are held in which there are actually meetings. It's more of an affirmation group (for some reason the Japanese concept of a 'fair' vote is a unanimous one) and because the decision was reached beforehand, there's little fighting, grudges between people, or choosing not to help out to your very best ability because a meeting is like proclaiming to the world, what exactly you're doing and putting your full step behind it.

It's not their form of government, it's how they go about it.

I disagree with you saying its school system is better than Americas for a few reasons. One reason is because it is a small country that is very homogeneous in race and values, opposed to America where the populace is extremely diverse in both race and values. What I mean by this is, you have a large population who see school as of great importance, and then, because America is so large, a large population that see school as a remora to their daily lives. This population, doesn't perspicaciously think of school, and therefore hindering Americas image acedemically. I by no way mean that I think Americas schools are good, i believe the country as a whole needs a caprice in its ideas, I'm just saying they aren't as bad as they may seem.

I also disagree in that Japan has better tech. Than America for many reasons, but this has been to long as it is, so ill leave it like this: America is still idoneous for tech leader

I agree with your assessment of Japan as a mainly homogeneous culture but even when you factor that in, it still performs better. A study adjusted the test scores of Japan compared against our most education-oriented state (Massachusetts) and most of Japan still performed at a significantly higher scale. While test scores don't decide everything, it is a pretty good indicator that even the best of us are performing badly compared to the Japanese (by this I mean in averages. I'd hardly say that the entirety of Japan is smarter than Bill Gates or Steve Jobs)

It is hard to choose what country is better. Nevertheless, I prefer Japan. I am not from USA; meanwhile, here in our country, we fed up with your culture. Approximately 80% of people listen to American music, 90% of people watches American films. I do not want say that I do not like America, but I am really bore with it. Such situation pushes people to know something new. I like Japanese manga, anime and culture. Japan has a very interesting culture. Exploring exotic culture is more fascinating. In addition, if you want to choose in which country to live, choose Japan, it has lower crime rate than America=)

Exactly the same feeling I have over in England, the americanisation of Britain and Europe just makes our culture worse.

Speaking of movies, Japan has Studio Ghibli which is a better set of movies for children than Disney could ever be.

Also I want to provide some arguments, which likely you will think that its silly

-They are not using shaking hands

I guess that the reason for not shaking hands is simply because bowing makes it unnecessary, however a pleasant side effect is that they never have to shake with someone who does not wash their hands.

-Manga and Anime

I think that not only Japanese are fans of this kind of art

-Music(JRock)

They have music which is not worse than American

-Girls

I would say Japan is better because they have good car companies such as Toyota and Nissan that are good quality cars that last a long time. Japan has manga and anime which I like to read and watch some anime. Japan has the Sony company that some of there products can last quite a while. Some of the food there is quite good.

If you assess countries by unimportant criteria, like cars, anime, manga, food and other products you are shortsighted. Cars didn't make Germany the best country in the world as well as Japan. Foods didn't make many other countries famous either. Thus products are not the major factor that makes country better than others.

I can't decide which one is more British:

Japan: Monarchy, Same Postal System, Same Banking system etc.

USA: Well, they speak the same language, sort of.

But Japanese children are brought up in a much better way than american children are, so my vote goes to them.

Side: Japan

Japan, because I enjoy their media and customer service. Plus, I don't understand their politics and therefore would be blissfully uncaring about how their laws were structured as long as they did not impede me from achieving happiness, as where in the United States, our two party system is coming dangerously close to a corporate oligarchy, as can be seen by the fact that Congress would dare try to pass a censorship bill just because censorship is endorsed by many corporations but opposed by approximately 99.99% of the population of the country.

Side: Japan

I am an american and although I love my country (probably due to emotional sentiments and indoctrination) I feel that Japan is more advanced technologically, are culturally more progressive, are more virtuous, have better education generally, are not totally whacked in the head with religious delusion, and dont measure their greatness by military might or purely by economic prosperity. Based on all of this I would characterize the Japanese and Japan as a country as a better approximation of an ideal nation. Japan and Sweden are the two countries I look to as examples as what a peaceful advanced world would be like.

I would also like to say that my opinion is not that of a first or second generation US citizen. My lineage stems from the Mayflower and other pre-independence day settlements, as well as several that came shortly there after. My father and two uncles served in the navy and airforce during Vietnam and both my grandfathers served in WWII in the european and pacific theaters respectively. I even have relation with the Urp family of the historical west. I am about as american as they come (other than native americans).

I attribute my non-nationalistic sentiments to my having been educated with the priority of questioning assumptions and thinking outside the box. I do however make the distiction between nationalism and patriotism and consider myself a true patriot of my nations insofar as I want the US to be better such that its "greatness" or being "better" is a term earned by the merits of its people and its influence in the world. I think that I am not a nationalist because I am not blind to the fact that the US has a long way to go even though its foundations are good and strong.

Side: Japan
1 point

Personally to me both of the countries are equally as beneficial and both have their own personal hardships. In general the country that most individuals choose is based on preference and appeal, meaning everyone is going to like one country over the other depending on who they are and what fits “them” best. So ideally to me this argument is invalid to a degree, haha.

Even then I want to clarify that ANY place you go to you are going to meet and greet people who are racist. Although the U.S.A is diverse, there is plenty of racism. Whether it be sarcasm, jokes, etc. Japan too will have their racism because they are not as diverse as us Americans.

With that being said, Japan or the U.S.A can be viewed as terrible or fantastic based on your first impression, this includes the location you visit and the people you meet.

Japan, although it does have a lot of people, so does the US. Again, it all depends on where you go.

Those who state that Japan has no trees or wildlife are false. As said previously it depends on where you visit. Take Kyoto for example. It’s beautiful and has plenty of colorful trees, wildlife, and contains very cool/ traditional temples. Not only does the area all together have cultural aspects but it also is highly advanced. I think most can agree that this is what causes people to be drawn to Japan the most, either the culture or their sweet and awesome gadgets.

I must admit, and I know it is no lie to anyone that yes, the US has a higher obesity rate. Which only concludes that Japan probably stresses a healthier lifestyle than a variety of Americans. That is NOT to say that ALL Americans are fat. I honestly love to walk, if I had the choice I would be walking everywhere I go. I think anywhere we can find lazy people, but I think America has too many influences that lead to obesity and laziness. To sum it up, it all falls on the individual and their choices which only means Americans can be just as thin as an Asian it is all placed on who that person is and what they choose as a lifestyle/habit. (I’m not wanting to rant on about obesity so I’ll wrap this part up) In America we are all about “Go, go, go!” that's not to say Japan isn’t too because they are...but normally when you get hungry in america and you gotta “Go, go, go!” You will eat along the way or stop at a fast food place. Whereas in Japan it is more custom to have to sit down when you eat, there is no “I’ll just eat on my way there.”

Leading to my next topic, the pros and cons of both of the countries.

Japan does have a lot of the arts believe it or not, I think that is what draws me in the most. A lot of people know Japan for either their video games/ mangas & animes which are all pretty great. Where in America I don’t really see a bunch of appreciation for artists like myself. I think that is because America mainly focuses on services rather than goods. That is probably because most of our objects/stuff we have does not ordinate from our country but mainly China. That is not to say that we can’t make our own products, because we do sometimes, but serving is the most job options available for the sake of the fact that we do rely on other countries to make cool stuff for us. In fact our government has taken money away from NASA which has created a tremendous amount of job losses and doesn’t allow the US to progressively advance as much.

Just because Japan has cool items doesn’t mean the US doesn’t too... the US has some great and beautiful places to visit. you just have to go to the right state.

Take New York as an example they have Niagara Falls, Colorado has amazing mountains, Michigan has the great lakes that consist of a majority of the fresh water we use on the WHOLE planet.

I think we take for granted what BOTH countries have to offer and BOTH can seem fairly flexible depending on who YOU are and what YOU do. America does have a larger military but were in debt, Japan not so much if anything they have been contributing. I think the down side is Japan has experienced some nasty disasters, even the US but it all as I have stated probably many times, depends on where you go.

(I am choosing Japan for the sake of who I am as a person. I still love America because it is where I originate from.)

USA is better than Japan for many reasons, and those reasons are more than Japan's reasons. First of all, let's talk about economy. If we look at the list of different economic categories we will see that in many of them USA is leading. One of the strong argument is that USA is able to supply its citizens with foods and it has many other natural resources. But Japan, with its 130 million population and a tiny land, has lack of resources. Secondly, USA could destroy Japan, but then helped after the World War II. It showed that USA has more power than Japan, and any other country in the world. Even if Japan is better than USA in some sphere, they are few than USA's

IT IS argument that USA could destroy and they still can destroy them, and Japan CAN"T resist them (i think it is useless to compare their military power, it is already known, by the way, it is also argument for USA)

America Is Better Than Japan. I have 10 reasons which will impove that I am right.

1. Credit cards.

Visa: it’s everywhere you want to be…except in Japan. With the exception of one major tourist trap (Kyoto Handicraft Center), I didn’t see a single place in Kyoto or Tokyo that accepts credit cards. And checks are almost unheard of too, so people just use cash all the time. My friends over there even have to pay their rent in cash each month. They might as well shortcut the process and have everyone wear a sign saying “Please mug me.”

2. Water.

In the U.S., every restaurant gives you water right away and will continue to give you as much as you want. In Japan, you don’t get cold water unless you ask for it, and if you do, it will come in something the size of a Dixie cup. At one place they were nice enough to bring us a pitcher of water because they knew that Americans are weird and need water to survive. They say that Japanese people get enough water from other things, but I don’t see how. I was thirsty all the time.

3. Napkins and toilet paper.

Most Japanese restaurants don’t give you napkins, which seems especially odd in a country where it’s OK to slurp your noodles. It seems even more odd since a few places give you wet naps, which is more than you really need. And Japan has only recently begun putting toilet paper in bathrooms. (Perhaps this is another reason why they don’t shake hands.) Some companies have apparently noticed an opportunity here, and they have people standing on street corners handing out tissues with advertising on the package.

4. Affordable fruit.

Fruit is outrageously expensive in Japan. I saw some melons that cost $50 and are given as graduation presents (I’m not kidding!). Excuse me while I go eat a 15 cent banana.

5. You can do things your way.

One of the kanji characters is simply a box. But you can’t draw it however you like. First you have to draw the left side in a downward stroke, then you pick up the pen, go to the upper left, and draw across and down, then you pick up the pen, go to the bottom left, and draw across. The process is more important than the results. If there’s this much emphasis on the right way to draw a box, I can understand why my friend has to go through 24 weeks of classes to have a rudimentary understanding of how to drink tea properly.

6. Relatively little discrimination.

I won’t say that there’s no discrimination in the U.S., but there’s a lot less of it than there is in Japan. Right now we have a black man and a woman running for the Democratic presidential nomination. Granted, that’s for the first time, but it shows progress.

In Japan, they discriminate heavily by age and sex. They even discriminate against people who were born and raised in Japan, who just happen to have some Chinese or Korean blood. And they even discriminate against pure-blood Japanese, born and raised in Japan, who have ever set foot outside the country. People who leave and come back have to go to a special school to be re-Japanized, and they are never fully accepted ever again.

7. You can breathe the air.

Say what you will about the air pollution in the U.S.; at least you don’t need to wear a mask. The Japanese cut down massive numbers of trees to rebuild the country after World War II, and they planted cedar trees to replace them. When the trees pollinated thirty years later, they discovered that a fifth of the population is highly allergic to cedar. For six weeks every spring, you’ll see many people wearing masks to protect themselves from the pollen.

8. Casual clothes.

While you do see some people wearing jeans in Japan, you also see just about every guy wearing a suit to work, you see every kid wearing their school uniform, and you see women wearing their elaborate kimono. A complete kimono outfit with all the accessories can cost over $20,000, which makes a $50 melon look like the bargain of the century. Women usually need a professional kimono dresser to choose the appropriate style and help put it on, and in the past the kimono had to be taken apart into twelve separate pieces, washed, and resewn. This all seems awfully elaborate for daily life. Now that Memorial Day is here, I’m allowed to wear shorts to work on Fridays.

9. You can eat cookies the first time you’re invited to.

In Japan, if someone offers you cookies and you accept right away, you’ve branded yourself as a greedy pig. A person with a reasonable amount of self discipline will wait until the fourth time they’re asked before finally giving in. It makes me wonder when you ever get to be yourself, without putting on a facade.

10. The U.S. isn’t too proud to import foreign goods.

If another country can make something better or cheaper, the U.S. will usually be happy to buy it from them. The Japanese people think that American beef isn’t compatible with the Japanese digestive tract, and that French skis don’t work on Japanese snow. It was a bit ridiculous of us to snub France with “Freedom Fries,” but we’d never pretend that French potatoes don’t work in American stomachs.
