Here in Canada we use a tax system similar to this, and I can confidently say that income inequality, while still present, is to a much less extent than the U.S.. An before people say anything about over-taxation, the highest Federal bracket is a mere 33%, while myself, I only pay 20.5%, which is easily made up for compared to U.S. tax rates seeing as my healthcare and other amenities are included in these taxes.

I'm fine with a flat tax. But then that flat tax needs to be on more than just payroll income. That's often the difference. The rich want it on payroll so they can spread more of their burden to the masses, but they don't want the same percentage taken out when they profit big from Wall Street or any other ways they generate money.

Meaning removal of a graduated income tax, in most plans, results in the rich paying less than now and the middle and lower class paying more. But why play naive about that? You're pretty smart HighFalutin and usually know the broader context of issues.

Here's a similar explanation.
