They are both science fiction, but one is boldly science fiction, and that is Star Wars. Star Trek is set in the future, but at the same time, it has less substance. No real story, it seems like a quilt. All of these small "adventures", all sewn up into one story. Star Wars though is set, strangely enough, in the past, where technology isn't necessarily "advanced", but different. Everything is still heavily mechanized, even though it's inefficient, and the elite class of soldier or peace keeper use devices like swords... sure they are laser swords (lightsabers), but they are still swords. So the story is set in the past, but it's a GIANT past. It was a long time ago, and when the film starts it gives a feeling that the world the characters live in is even older than what you see. Talks about the "clone wars", and people that have died long ago... it just gives the feeling that the universe is HUGE, and there is a ton of history there. Unlike Star Trek, which has it's history written in our real history books... Boring. Also, there is one giant story line leading you to one point, the balancing of the force. What doesn't make much sense to most people, is why we get episode 4, 5, and 6, in the 70's and 80's, and then in 2000-2007 (or something) we get episodes 1, 2, and 3. Luke was the balance, wasn't he? No, it was Anakin. Darth Sidious killed his master, Darth Plagueis, in his sleep. We find this out in episode 3. We also learn that Darth Plagueis "the wise" could keep people from dying, or bring people back to life. This is what turned Anakin, ultimately. The need to save Padme. All of Anakin's problems leading up to that point, were caused by Darth Sidious. In fact, Anakin wouldn't have met Padme had the trade federation not blockaded Naboo, which did so under the command of Senitor Palpatine, aka Darth Sidious. Anywho, when Darth Sidious killed his master in his sleep, Darth Plagueis got his revenge by creating Anakin out of mediclorians. Remember, Anakin came about without conception. He was created by the force, by Darth Plagueis, to murder Darth Sidious. He did this in episode 6. The film begins in Naboo, with the blockade, and ends with Darth Vader killing Emperor Palpatine, all according to plan, but you don't realize it until seeing episode 3, which was the last out of 6. Gah, now I look like a huge star wars nerd... but Star Wars is by far a much better series than Star Trek. Side: Star Wars

It's more entertaining for me, and making fun of the outfits for the different species/creatures is just so fun! I'm talking actual Star Trek, not just the new movie. I suppose my opinion is influenced by that my family also likes Star Trek and I haven't seen all of Star Wars. Side: star trek
