I like the Shawshank Redemption better as in a more reality based setting. The Green Mile has the whole 'magic' thing going on which is fine but this seems to be a comparison of apples and oranges in some aspects. A similar comparison to the original debate would be The Illusionist and The Prestige. But as a write in I would say the Caged Heat movies on Cinemax are better prison movies:P Side: The Shawshank Redemption

I liked this better because Shawshank redemption was just as unrealistic as this movie. How probable is it that the one guy smart enough to break out of prison successfully happens to be the one in the cell at the end (i.e. the only cell from which his method could have worked). At least The Green Mile is openly unrealistic and is far more brutal and amoral when the sins start honing in. Shawshank is way too much of a happy ending for what should have been a tragic view of reality. Side: The Green Mile
