Many thousands have died of starvation, have been killed by gangs, racists, are trying to save their children. The Virus has not caught up to those numbers, yet. The left tries to save as many as possible from death and other dangers. We can not just ignore one group. We try to do our best for EVERYBODY that is suffering or dying. The fact of the matter is that if it was going to spread to the US, it would be highly unlikely to come from south of the border. I'd be more worried about the planes, boats, imports of meat, animal stuffs, exotic pet trade, food chain etc. You talk about "closing the border", but actually, far more danger comes from the everyday travel that you allow through the USA from all around the world, than from Mexico. The WHO would agree: by air and sea are how viruses country-hop. So what's your solution? Close down the airports and sea-lanes every time there is an outbreak of a virus in the world? Well ok. But say bye-bye to your economy in that case.
