One of the hottest and most debateable topics in our society right now is the protection of our second amendment. As citizens of the United States we are guaranteed certain basic freedoms that have limitations. One of the most treasured rights as a Texan, is that to bear arms. Now unfortunately where our society is going and the acts that some evil individuals are performing we may be stripped of these rights fairly soon. So who is to blame for these mass killings in malls, school, and public events? Do we blame an old outdated constitution that needs some revisions or do we blame our possibly corrupt society? We need to look at some possible explanations for a corrupt society to exist and some explanations for a possibly outdated Constitution.

Think to yourself when you were about ten to twelve years old and what you were doing for entertainment. If you are like most American kids you are most likely playing violent video games verse enhancing our education. Almost every American household posses some time of gaming system whether it is an Xbox 360 or a PS3. Now there is definitely nothing wrong with having a gaming system or being allowed free time to play some video games. If you ask me every teenage boy needs to play video games sometime in your life. The unfortunate and moral issue with the video game culture is we are feeding our youth an unrealistic lifestyle that is promoting an outrageous outlook on violence. Kids have the ability to walk around in a fantasy world with a heavily armed weapon and kill mass amounts of “enemies”. Now think about it for a second- Are we developing our youth’s mental perspective on guns and giving them an idea that this is acceptable in the real world? Maybe it is not the fault of the video game companies for developing such graphic games. The big video game companies do they part in rating games according to different age categories. Even the retail stores such as Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and GameStop require you to have a valid license to purchase a “Mature” game. Does the finger pointing need to go towards the negligent parents whom lack the ability to step in and prevent our youth from playing these games? If ones parents allow their kids at the age 10 to play a video game rated for 17+ what kind of parenting is our society doing. Even worse, your kids whom are not allowed to play these video games may in fact play them at a friend’s house whose parents allow their kids to play these mature games.

The other plausible cause to our corrupt society and the abuse of our second Amendment could come down to an outdated Constitution and outdated gun control. Back in what seems to be pre-historic times, there was no such thing as semi-automatic assault rifles such as AK-47’s, AR-15s, and M4A1’s. We are talking about a weapon that can kill hundreds of people from within 50feet in a matter of minutes. These are the same guns that are portrayed in our violent video games our youths are playing. When our Constitution was developed it was develop to give citizens of the United States the right to bear arms for the purpose of protection from personal harm. Technology has grown and our society has grown in vast directions, but our loyal Constitution remains unchanged and possible killing too many innocent lives. Should we allow our government to step in and implement a ban on Assault Rifles? Will a ban on assault rifles actually cut back and prevent the use of these mass killings. The almost obvious answer is no. Unfortunately it seems that we need to target different areas to prevent these careless acts of evil.
