Who does America really work for?

GOVERNMENT

Side Score: 11
VS.

OURSELVES

Side Score: 9

America works for neither the government or it's citizens. The government works for the wealthy and the rest are left to struggle on their own. This should be the definition of capitalism, but the rich write the dictionaries also.

the governmnents power grows yearly as the power of the people diminishes. Look at the obama administration. They have taken money from americans, kept most of it, and given very little back.

State governments are now controlled by the federal government. People are struggling to get it back.

id say american works for wall street, and the corporations in general. given the huge bail outs to goldman sachs, and general motors. wall street pays virtually not taxes.

America has more of a hold in American's lives then they'd like to admit. You're all sheep. Smarter and 'liberal' sheep only means smarter shepherds. That's all.

Side: government

Many liberals would have America believe that we work for the government because we are the government despite America was founded on a free enterprise system.

Side: Ourselves

Since, we have a capitalist economy it should benefit us. The money we earn should help us out, and I choose what to do with my cash.

A captialist economy has no use for the word "us," only "me."

A captialist economy has no use for the word "us," only "me."

Which I consider preferable to "No I, only we". The utopia described by Marx (if so soulless and wretched a place can be called that) is unattainable for a society so large as ours. Capitalism is the only practical way of ensuring that people's desires and needs are met, because the feedback to the producers comes directly from the consumers. Introduce an arbitrator such as government and the result is the introduction of quotas or gross mismanagement on the left, favouritism and corruption on the right. The free market is serviceable and shall remain so for the foreseeable future.

A capitalist economy works for the consumer, and the producer. I am assuming there is more than one consumer and more than one producer. We are a nation of mostly consumers.
