Martin luther king, Gandi, American revolution, french revolution. People can overpower government, its difficult but possible. On the day to day, individual scale government is more powerful. When people come together over time, government has more of a challenge. It'll eventually be broken, or all of its resisters will be dead. Government consists of a fraction of the people, if most of the people just stopped paying attention to the government, its effectively gone unless they bring out their guns. In which case a revolution might happen. Side: people
Yes, the people have definitely more power than the government. Although the government may seem to be able to keep control of a nation, the people have the real power, for they are the reason governments exist. For example, if there wasn't a government, people would still be able to maintain order, and advance through life. However, if there were no people, who are the government supposed to control? Their existence would be pointless, and they would fade to nothingness. People make up the government system anyway, so the government is but a extension of people. Side: people

Here is what i know which isn't much just enough to piss me off. People technically have more power but the government has trust something that the people don't have(think about it who do you think the common man will believe more?) Another thing is that the government has is every thing you own unless you have no bills to pay but by staying in debt they can basically keep people oppressed better(our society is a very materialistic one). We don't have to start a new civil war for change but with that said it is an option but more than likely wouldn't work again people don't trust people.(Our society lives in fear and that fear is one of the most typical ways that the majority is controlled not only by the government) The federal government are the ones that seem to be the most asswholeish because they step out of there boundaries very often (Example- A quadriplegic man "he had to be hooked up to a respirator and had to use an automatic wheel-chair" had a license to smoke weed the D.E.A went in arrested him for having a dub-sac "or 4-6 grams of weed" then sentenced him to 3 months in prison but they didn't hook him up to any machinery basically he died and there was no one to be held responsible) The government has us oppressed in many ways although there really clever about hiding it or at least they were before the internet was a common thing even still though 80% of the population in the states don't even question anything there government does and just assumes that they know whats better for the greater good(again we live in fear so we have a lot of laws that keep us from living how we want) the balls in their court and they have more players but don't give up hope other wise it will be easier for them to succeed not all the government is bad but still we got to just learn to question things. In order for people to use the power that we have will not be an easy task cause we need majority of the Americans to agree which presents a problem (try telling someone there wrong without them getting pissed off) If the government continues to do what its doing then im pretty sure that humans will be extinct before our planet which sounds weird to think but in order for our race to survive is to stop fighting each other which you really cant do because once we fear something we try and kill. Fear guides us fear makes us fear will only cause problems unless we actually try how could we ever actually know anything. (Why should the politicians be able to send us to war but not fight them-selfs) (why should the young die and face horrors when they never asked to fight these people) (We don't need to conquer just defend) If you read any of this thank you for letting me voice my opinion Side: people

Assuming the government is owned by the people where the majority rules (and assuming the government is fully functional), the government always has the power of more than half of the people backing it. So basically if the people consists of 1,000 citizens, the government is at least 501 of those citizens. 501>499 The government exists to have the power and to express the power of the majority over the minority. Very important too, is that all 1000 citizens would have their faith invested in the government and their faith invested in the idea that more people know better than less people (haha), or they can leave the government. But still, in a majority rule where half the citizens bail out of the government the government would have at least the power of 251 citizens over 249... effectively the government would have the power of 500 citizens though, because of the faith invested by both the majority and the minority. The people is the sum of all citizens in any case. If all citizens were to agree about everything and all citizens were equal there would be no government and this question would be invalid. Be more specific about the type of government please, that would help. Side: Goverment

Well, it really depends on the form of government. There are two basic forms of government: Republic and Monarchy. Republic spectrum stretch from single party republics to military dictatorships. Monarchy spectrum stretch from constitutional monarchy to absolute monarchy. So, even in a democratic republic such as the United States, it is the people who elected government officials, whom make the laws in order for the people to obey. Government has more power even democratic republic. Imagine the control and power of dictatorships. Side: Goverment
true that. i think my best example of gov having more power is this statement. think of the last constitutional war we had. if you think of any wars after ww2, your wrong ( quoted from the politically incorrect guide series) this statement surprised me when i read it. what happened is the Pres has the power to wage 60 day wars with out any approval. and if the war escalates (which do most wars) the president can continue it in self defense or an some other. GOverment, mostly in a country like India. It is said to be a true democracy, but then, there are so many misdeeds commited, that even when the people voice it out, there is some power in the government which stealthily suppresses the person who has given his or her opinion of some wrongdoings. People theoretically have the power, but in reality they don't. We don't live in a true democracy. I didn't get to vote on the healthcare reform bill or the budget or anything else. I got to vote on who would be my state's representatives in the House and Senate, who I entrust to serve my interests. If they don't, I don't have much I can do about it except try to issue a recall, and THEN I have to vote on someone else to entrust instead. Side: government
