Who is Smarter: Males or Females?

The battle of the sexes.

So far, the best measure of intelligence we've come up with-- IQ-- is still deeply flawed. But it's still the best we've got. So I'll use it as a measure, but it's not the end-all.

Males and females have an average and median of 100 IQ. By that measure you might say of all people you meet, gender won't affect intelligence. But the bell curves are a bit skewed: males have more extreme scores on both ends. That means the men you meet of below average IQ are likely to have lower scores than the below-average women; conversely, the high-IQ men will have higher scores than high IQ women. So men are both smarter and dumber than women.

Then there's the modality of brain function. Men tend to be better at single-minded tasks, like math or science. Women are better at holistic thought, meaning the information they process is not as deep, but far broader. Men's brain activity tends to cluster in smaller areas, tending towards one hemisphere of the brain at a time.

Males tend to learn things from their surrondings while women just paint their nails.

I think there's a study that shows that females are technically smarter. I'm too lazy to look, but honestly, I don't think either gender is smarter.

Smarter is a relative term. As already said the IQ is flawed. They used to claim men were better at visual spatial relationship. It turns out that men are better at remembering objects relative to one another in distance and direction, and women are better at remembering small clusters of objects related to one another. The study if i remember correctly did the testing first by not telling subjects they were going to be tested. when they did tell them exactly what they were to be tested on there were no significant difference between men and women.
