CreateDebate is a social debate community built around ideas, discussion and democracy.
If this is your first time checking out a debate, here are some quick tips to help get you started:
Arguments with the highest score are displayed first.
Argument replies (both in favor and in opposition) are displayed below the original argument.
To follow along, you may find it helpful to show and hide the replies displayed below each argument.
To vote for an argument, use these icons:
You have the power to cast exactly one vote (either up or down) for each argument.
Once you vote, the icon will become grayed out and the argument's score will change.
Yes, you can change your vote.
Debate scores, side scores and tag scores are automatically calculated by an algorithm that primarily takes argument scores into account.
All scores are updated in real-time.
To learn more about the CreateDebate scoring system, check out the FAQ.
When you are ready to voice your opinion, use the Add Argument button to create an argument.
If you would like to address an existing argument, use the Support and Dispute link within that argument to create a new reply.

Who is the masterdebater?!
So, welcome to my new debate. I'm looking to pick a fight here.
Someone here is much smarter than me. If you know who this is, send them a private message urging them to debate me. I'm looking for the best createdebate has to offer and I expect to end up looking like an idiot. Who wants to put Judas in his place?
The terms:
The topic must be from this list but I will argue for the side of your choosing.
1. Gun Control, the right to bear arms vs. stopping gun violence
2. Abortion, Pro-life vs. Pro-choice
3. Drugs, personal liberties vs. public safety
4. War, non-interventionism vs. policing the world
5. Gay marriage, pro vs. con
Put your debate chops to the test and send Judas a challenge debate!
Prayerfails, Axemeister, wardog, davidh, I know you guys don't like me. Accept my challenge and get out all that hater energy. If any createdebate celebrities like andy or joecavalry want to show off their skills now's the time. All are welcome! Bring your kids!
Who allowed this man, this pathetic man, this man who could not outwit a used teabag, to be in a position where he might endanger the entire crew? Who? Only a yogurt! This man is not guilty of manslaughter. He is only guilty of being Arnold J Rimmer. THAT is his crime, It is also his punishment.
Dude she cant even handle masterdebating. I tried to let her masterdebate me once and she just got drenched in...................................................highly supported arguments.
Alright, I'm seriously you guys. You'd think challenging an entire debate website and being an asshole about it would result in at least one debate. You guys suck an ass. I'm very disappointed in you.
Sometimes a dinosaur has to go extinct, it's just the way things are. You are clearly having trouble adapting to your changing environment.
"Debate is contention in argument; dispute, controversy" -wiki
I'm sorry that you thought this was a social networking site. This place is for controversy and argument, it's not facebook. We are here to "stir up the pot" and argue. What you call "little bitch fights" are simply debates that you are losing.
Theres actually something called "Google", and when you search "argument definition" these little things called "words" pop up, and if you have passed something called "2nd grade" you should be able to read it. Am I making sense to you?
Those of us that passed the "2nd" grade use dictionaries when we are looking up definitions. A search engine does not necessarily provide factual information, as all of us who passed the "2nd" grade knows.
What grade are you in, by the way? 8th? You are 15. Maybe it's time to let the adults talk now. I'm sorry you don't know what "debate" means (or how to look it up) but that's not my problem.
I assumed that you were meaning the first, because I assumed that you are not taking a debate class, like I am, or you would know this. The second is specifically referring to an argument in a formal debate. Please, tell me which definition you are using to make your claims
Yeah...so you're referring to the latter. Then please, explain to me what kind of "debate" this is: http://www.createdebate.com/debate/show/ Who_the_hell_is_Ismaila See, this is what PrayerFails was talking about when he said "little b!+c# fights" The first rule to choosing a proper debate topic, is its debatability. How are we supposed to debate that? Side 1: She is a female human who is currently living. Side 2: No she isn't. What? There is no way to debate "Who the hell is Ismaila". Thats just a random poll you made because she hurt your feelings. Please, don't even try twist your words to convince me thats a debate, you're just wasting my time.
The topic we are currently discussing is your factually incorrect statement that "there is a difference between an argument and debate", which of course there is not. Argument is part of debate.
If I were to go with your change of topic, I can still dispute your statement. That debate was about ismaila's character and whether I should "be nice" to her or "not put up with her nonsense" which is of course a debatable topic. Everyone seemed to enjoy that topic and it became one of the most popular threads this week. Feel free to print it out and take it to your debate instructor if you feel like looking like an idiot.

You just proved yourself wrong with your own statement. Maybe you did get an A in your debate class, but that must have been a long time ago because you obviously forgot alot of things. If you don't know, your stament contains the Fallacy of Division: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallacy_of_division This is what you are saying, A debate contains arguments, therefor a debate is the same thing as an argument. A = A, A contains B, therefor A = B. If your mistake isn't obvious, feel free to ask and I'll explain.
As for your stament that I changed topics when I addressed your debate, maybe you didn't notice, but thats is the whole thing I was leading to and that is also what PrayerFails meant. I did in fact go off on a tangent, but thats because I thought you caught on to the reason I was trying to distinguish between a debate and an argument. PF meant that this is a site for formal debate, as in the definition for debate that I gave, but what you were doing was the definition for argument that I gave. Yes, you can generalize and use the fallacy of equivocation to try to make them out to be the same thing, but when you get down to the true meaning of his and my arguments, this site is for formally discussing opinions, not making debates about making personal conflicts and hurt feelings.
You just proved yourself wrong with your own statement.
That is my statement, "argument is part of debate". Debate consists of argument, by definition. I'm assuming that we all agree that debate is a good thing on this website. That being the case, argument is absolutely necessary to have "debate". The problem was that you didn't know that and so you were telling me not to argue, but to debate instead.
Let me remind you of what happened,
"We are here to "stir up the pot" and argue" said the charming, handsome Judas
"No.....we are here to debate. There is a difference between an argument and debate." said the silly little phantom
"...this site is for formally discussing opinions" -The Phantom
I'm not sure how to help you. You don't seem to understand what is going on here. This is a "debate" website. It's not creatediscussions.com
That is my statement, "argument is part of debate"
No, your statement was that they are the same thing. Its not helping anyone to change your statements in the middle of a debate because you find yourself in the wrong.
Debate consists of argument
And thats where you commit the fallacy of division. Debate consists of arguments, BUT THAT DOESNT MEAN THEY ARE THE SAME. How can I make myself any clearer? Its not that I'm being unclear, its just that you are unwilling to admit you are wrong.
This is a "debate" website. It's not creatediscussions.com
Exactly. This is a debate website. It's not createarguments.com. You're obviously missing something. Even if "argue" and "debate" are the same, which they are not, you still aren't "arguing" as in making claims based on logical reasoning and proof. You are just getting into little b!+c# fights with Ismaila. Even now you aren't actually "arguing", you are just putting forth your silly little opinions without backing it up with actual proof. And unless you are actually willing to do that, please don't comment again, you're just wasting my time.
Everything I've said has been backed by mirriam websters dictionary
Exactly. The only time you used proof was a dictionary for your definitions. I'm talking about all your other arguments.
If you want it to end, stop making inaccurate, defensive statements
My statements were very accurate. And if you perceive them to be defensive, then thats your problem because that depends on my intent, which was not to be defensive.
And this debate is getting kinda long, so I'll also state two points also to clear things up.
1. That debate with Ismaila wasn't a good (if actual) debate. Im not sure if you conceded to this or you were just saying it was only once.
2. Just because arguments are a part of debate, they aren't the same thing.

Regardless of your opinion, it was a debate, and many users enjoyed it.
"Thank you Judas we thank you for making this debate" -Sovietspy
"It's amusing watching them fight" - Cuaroc
2. Just because arguments are a part of debate, they aren't the same thing.
This is like saying taking steps and walking aren't the same thing. If you told someone, "hey don't walk around here, just take steps" you would sound pretty silly, especially if the place was for walking.
Createdebate is for debate, which entails argument. We've already gone over this enough times, we all know the definitions. You shouldn't be telling anyone on a debate website not to argue, that is ridiculous. There is nothing left for us to talk about. Just understand how silly you were, and stfu.
Regardless of your opinion, it was a debate, and many users enjoyed it.
That wasn't my point or opinion. I actually did enjoy it also because I wasn't alway Ismaila's biggest fan either. But I was just clarifying what PF said. That the personal conflicts are getting kinda out of hand.

No, It's like saying that you are a skin cell because you are composed of skin cells. But you know what, screw the whole part about logical arguments being the ame thing as debates, because when I first said argue, I meant "An exchange of diverging or opposite views, typically a heated or angry one".

When I meant argue, initially meant getting into personal conflicts, not logical arguments. Thats why you need to stop changing definitions. I just thought you were quick enough to catch on. I guess you weren't.
