Who starts riots? Protesters or cops?

Hello:

I've only been to one demonstration so my experience is limited..  But, here's my story..

I fought in Vietnam..  I came back a PROUD sailor who wholeheartedly supported that war..  So, it came to pass that there was gonna be an anti-war march down Wilshire Blvd..  So I went..  Oh, NOT to protest AGAINST the war, but to HECKLE the marchers from the sidelines.  So they'd KNOW I was a veteran, I wore my uniform..

It was then that the cops attacked.  And, they didn't just attack the marchers..  They attacked EVERYBODY, including ME in my uniform.  That was a life altering event for me..  I NEVER supported the war again, and I began a deep seated hatred for the cops..

Now, maybe my experience was unusual..  But, it's the ONLY experience I have.

Democrats pandering for minority votes ALWAYS have a hand in starting these riots.

Whether it being Obama and Democrats bringing biased attention to cops killing Black people, but never cops killng white people, or creting groups such as Black lives matter, etc. etc.

The day you see Democrats making a huge issue out of a video showing a cop killing a white man, I will eat my hat.

It's amazing how naive you are to the powers to be conditioning you to look at issues as you do. Big Brother Democrats with the liberal media bully pulpit feed you what they want you to see and hear. They are the ones creating the environment for riots and division between Americans.

They do this purely for political reasons and keeping a stranglehold on the minority vote.

Why do you think Democrats never do anything to change what they call discrimination decade after decade? They don't actually care for Black people but they care about their vote.

It is big money from Liberals such as George Soros who fund these protests, these riots, these biased news outlets.

Please wake up to this obvious fact. Who do you think organized those anti war protests? It's always political.

"People" start riots they are not specific to a particular sect, class, religion, race, or person.

WOW! You can not be that dense can you?....................................................

If the protestors were not there being violent in the first place, there would be no need for the cops in these places in the first place.

Ex Vet says I fought in Vietnam.. but yesterday Ex Vet you said your body never entered the Republic of Vietnam. According to you your ship rotated out in 1964 and you were discharged in 1965. How is it you fought in the Vietnam War when you claim you were in the Navy at sea. I can refresh your memory with your words if you like but i think i will.

Let's review, shall we? I was in the NAVY.. My body was never IN the Republic of Vietnam. My ship rotated OUT of Vietnam BEFORE August, of 1964..

EX VET you never fought in the Vietnam War you were on a ship.

Holes are all in your story EX VET looks like Swiss Cheese.

Anti War demonstration took place at Wilshire and Virgil and that was in 1967 in LA.

EX VET says that was 50 years ago. That would make you 17 EX VET but isn't it you signed up for the Navy at 17. Can you keep your story straight or is it you are a LIAR.

Every police department is different. But generally speaking, cops are in place to constrain large groups so as to maintain order. Often times large groups don't like police commands and fail to remember that police enforce lawful orders physically, not just verbally. So if a crowd is unlawfully assembled or otherwise hazardous to the public, police are tasked with dispelling the group. If the crowd refuses to comply, and physical measures are initiated, who starts the fight? Since riots typically involve looting and massive vandalism that is not carried out by police, I would say it may not matter who swung first. Because it certainly wasn't Joe shop owner whose store is not destroyed by the police.

If you opinion of foreign policy is reversed by some unrelated actions of a single police department, I have to wonder about the validity of your reason in general.

I'm sorry for the experience you had. I may be wrong but I had thought you couldn't wear a uniform to something like a protest, maybe the cops didn't really think you were a Vet? I don't know but it's not typical behavior for Cops to start it, usually it's escalated by a few protesters whose behavior is less than savory then goes from there.

Again though, this is my personal opinion on the matter, most peaceful protesters are able to both protest and leave in peace. Perhaps at the one you went to everyone was charged up and things were getting out of hand.

Hello M:

Thanks for your concern.. But, I wasn't looking for sympathy.. I was looking for ANGER.

Here's the law on uniform wearing.. See paragraph (e)

Sec. 772. When wearing by persons not on active duty authorized..

(a) A member of the Army National Guard or the Air National Guard may wear the uniform prescribed for the Army National Guard or the Air National Guard, as the case may be.

(b) A member of the Naval Militia may wear the uniform prescribed for the Naval Militia.

(c) A retired officer of the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps may bear the title and wear the uniform of his retired grade.

(d) A person who is discharged honorably or under honorable conditions from the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps may wear his uniform while going from the place of discharge to his home, within three months after his discharge.

(e) A person not on active duty who served honorably in time of war in the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps may bear the title, and, when authorized by regulations prescribed by the President, wear the uniform, of the highest grade held by him during that war.

I think sympathy is the wrong word. I don't feel pity for you or sorrow for your misfortune, it is just unfortunate and upsetting that the incident happened to begin with. You standing to show your support for your brethren is honorable. Thank you for the section on uniform wearing, it was informative, perhaps my understanding of it was wrong.

Take Boston for example. For a long while they were burning down their own buildings for christ sakes. Amd the cops couldnt do a thing because Obama didnt authorize excessive force to be used. Since Trump took office how many riots have been deemed uncontrolable by the press...this is because he authorized the use of any non lethal force to stop them.

while every protester has the right to protest, the cops are simply doing their job, sometimes, protests can take an ugly turn if left uncontrolled. Not only that, many times, such as this case, the cops need not necessarily be held responsible, they are a part of the government, and they take orders. that's what they're payed for and it is "legal". we do find many corrupt cops, but surely, the entire organisation cannot be flawed. Protesters are people who are dissapointed that their ideas/opinions were not considered and hence find themselves in a position of loss, be it materialistic or sentimental. Protesters are filled with enthusiasm and end up doing things which could potentially start a riot. what i conclude of it is, even if you go by statistics, most of the riots are due to protesters, whether they are up with an idea for something better or worse, they end up being "illegal" and that's how they start riots.

Protestors are the ones who start riots. They become violent and the cops are the ones who stop the violent protestors from wrecking the town and hurting people.
