Who will John McCain choose as his Vice Presidential running mate?

John McCain is still undecided as to who he will choose as his running mate for Vice President of the United States in the 2008 Election. Who do you think he will choose? Who should he choose?

It wouldn't surprise me if he went with the inventor of the waffle iron himself, Joe Lieberman! Who should he choose? Mitt Romney is as good as any of the others who have been vetted. My personal preference is that he run with someone who is really fun to be with, is a beltway outsider, and knows loads about economic issues...Martha Stewart!

I believe that McCain will choose Mitt Romney as his running mate. He is trying to show the world that he is willing to put past feuds aside and broaden his tent in unconventional ways. However, this may not be the best choice as the "Religious Right" may be averse to electing a Mormon as a Vice President.

Romney was definitely pulling in conservatives at a better clip than McCain. So i also believe he needs to pick Romney if he wants to win this thing.

I really don't know, and i don't really care.

I'd say Joe Lieberman would have been a good choice. The far right and the far left are hopeless, so it's not like he has to try and impress them (both extreme sides hate Joe Lieberman).

Mitt Romney maybe. I wouldn't have liked him as a president, but he's good for getting the Conservative vote (which McCain is a bit dry on).

Rice would have been good, but she's not interested.

Should pick Stephen Colbert... i know Huckabee could have done well if the Republicans had voted him in... but... Colbert has a problem with checking facts before he talks... could end up making an ass out of himself (never ask the court jester to rule).

So so far, Romney might be it. too bad.

Over the past two months since Obama's trip to Europe, McCain has gone from a somewhat moderate Republican with an open mind to foreign policy and conservative spending to being a radical war monger with his eye and government money on Iran. Not to mention his open disregard for women's rights and issues which wasn't present until after the primaries.

It only makes sense that McCain decides to go broke for conservatives by sealing the proverbial deal with an extremely conservative mormon who STILL supports Bush's plan to deploy more troops to Iraq. By making this move, McCain enunciates his Republican nature and forces moderates to choose between party extremes. Perhaps that's why so many moderate Republicans are choosing to vote Ron Paul...

My view is that Senator McCain will wait until after the Democratic Convention and then choose his running mate, a (former) Governor that will help him win the election and govern. Barack Obama makes his choice first, then McCain makes his counter-move. The top of McCain's list includes Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Charlie Crist, and Bobby Jindal. He wants someone whom he likes and who can help him carry a big swing state, like Florida, in the November election, so Crist is in play. Romney, a Mormon who at one time had taken liberal positions, would hurt McCain with some conservatives but is a good campaigner. Jindal is young, bright, uniquely dark, and conservative enough to win in Louisiana, and may be a smart choice. Former Gov. Huckabee, a Baptist minister, is popular with the Christian Right. Look for a governor.
