Obama took it. Foreign policy is supposed to be John McCain's best topic. He needed to wipe the floor with Obama. That didn't happen. I would say the debate was more or less a tie, with Obama doing slightly better.

On CBS, when the debate was over, they cut to a small audience of hand-picked independent viewers. Each member of the audience had one of these handheld dials that they would turn one way when they liked what they were hearing and the other way when they didn't. Their most positive ratings came when Obama told McCain that he was wrong when he said that the invasion of Iraq would be quick and easy. Below is the clip, edited together with evidence proving the accuracy of Obama's claims.

Obama took it. he made sure to get his points across and made sure that he appealed to the crowds as well. McCain was too indecisive. I remember when it came to the topic of Gay Marriage in a previous debate, he responded that he didn't have a problem and was okay with it. then ten minutes later, he told the public that he DID NOT support gay marriage at all. Now why would i want a president that cannot make up his mind ?

I must admit that in the beginning, it seemed that McCain had the upper hand. As the thing went on, I started feeling proud and remembered who my candidate is.

McCain really showed his age, appearing like the scolding old man. What really shocked me was that his age should mean good old fashioned standards - like you look a man in the eye whether you agree with him or not. That is what the older generation stands for - those apple pie standards that are being lost in younger generations. He failed. Probably a personal mechanism he uses to make an opponent an enemy, but it spoke volumes about the man.

Obama although not as punchy as McCain, looked his opponent in the eye and gave him credit where credit is due. No one is 100% wrong and I do not want a president that can't acknowledge that. I was proud to be an Obama supporter, proud that he ran a different kind of campaign and it worked. It really worked! The high road does work!!!!

looked his opponent in the eye? They both stood at podiums not facing each other. They looked out at an audience and into a camera. I don't understand your point.

As for his different kind of campaign, he played the race card against Bill Clinton which is a joke. He has been accused of running a sexist campaign against Hillary. He has lied and mischaracterized his history and position repeatedly, in fact constantly. The latest was in this very debate when he tried to claim that Bush and Kissinger agreed with him about talking to president of Iran. He has tried for a month now to pretend he didn't mean what he said. He clearly said that HE, as president would meet with our enemies. Not that his administration would have working channels as every administration does. That he personally would meet with Achmadinijad. Castro. Chavez. Then those bad guys go home and look like equals to our president in front of their constituency. He doesn't understand the first thing about foreign diplomacy and any secretary of state with a backbone would end up being forced to quit after Obama neutered our foreign policy time after time. Obama lied when he said that Bush has come to his way of thinking by opening diplomatic channels with Tehran. He has tried to distance himself from what he said because he seems to be incapable of admitting he was wrong. He is another Al Gore who always thinks he is the smartest guy in any room and can't ever admit he was wrong. He still wont come out and say he was wrong on the surge and he wont admit he was wrong on these face to face meetings. He lied about Kissinger and Kissinger flat out said so the day after the debate. Some high road!!

Ink...the podiums were angled toward center and Jim Lehrer kept reminding both to speak to one another. Obama did turn but McCain never did. He never looked him in the eye and told him what he thought of anything. It's rude, unmannerly and not at all Presidential in appearance...and I don't mean it should just be for appearance sake. When I speak with someone or field a question, I look at that person square in the eye. Don't you? In this case you turn to acknowledge Lehrer then answer or speak to McCain. People do take offense to that lack of respect.

I believe Obama edged McCain out on the first debate. I didn't hear much from McCain on his Foreign Policy outside of HIS Veterans and his opinions on Gen. Petraeus. He scored no real points there and should have. The fact that he could not look Obama in the eye is disturbing to me and upon Lehrer's many suggestions to do so, it almost ruffled him! Obama did not score an overwhelming win but showed he is certainly up to snuff on what's going on in Pakistan and Afghanistan as well as presenting a Presidential demeanor which McCain did not. Any President must be able to juggle the many balls before him and I do not believe McCain can do that while Obama will judging by his multi-faceted answers.

McCain just doesn't have a clue. He isn't in touch with the average man or vets. Most Vets don't trust him. That is pretty bad for a Vet himself

care to support your assertion? Or is it just too easy for you to declare that you speak for all vets?

It is now 2015 and the Debates of 2008 and 2012 are over. I'm just happy that Obama was elected President twice.
