First of all, we have no way of knowing that. But if he did, it may have had something to do with Hillary Clinton being a clinically insane neocon warmonger. Putin may be mamny things, but he is not an insane person. His business empire would be of no value in case of a nuclear war. And a war over Syria would have probably ensued shortle after her election, because she was hellbent on supporting the "rebel" terrorists by all means possible, including direct military confrontation with Russia. I am well aware of the fact that Assad is a dictator, but the Takrifi scumbags that had been trying to destroy Syria were several magnitudes worse than Assad. 1
