Why did the riots happen?

The 4 theories:

Interactionist  approach –  this approach is the belief that criminals are criminals as they are labelled that way. So if they’re labelled as a thief, they will steal as it’s a ‘self-fulfilling prophesy’. They believe that criminals should be educated & decriminalized.

Positivist  approach –  this approach is the belief that criminals are either born or made that way (social learning theory), so they can’t help but commit crimes as it’s in their genes. They believe that criminals should be rehabilitated.

Classicist approach – this approach is the belief that crimes are committed on the basis of ‘rational choice’, so they ought to pay for their crimes (eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth)

Marxist approach – this approach is the belief that it’s not the criminal’s fault. The ‘upper class’ supress the working class, and that causes them to just take what they want as they believe they deserve it. They believe that in order to deal with the criminals, there should be a radical overhaul of the systems.

So why did the riots happen? Is it in the offenders genes, are they brought up as offenders, was it a choice...?

Which riots? There's been like a million riots.

And what about a riot necessarily makes the participants criminals?

This is a confusing debate.
