Why do Americans speak English more distinctly than all other English speaking nations?

The United States has a wide range of very different accents, but the common theme throughout is the clarity of diction and pronunciation. When I visit America, be it New York, San Diego or wherever, I never have the slightest problem understanding every word spoken. The same applies with American entertainment and news programmes. I often wonder how the accents all developed and why everyone, to a greater or lesser extent, speaks so clearly.

"...Americans speak English more distinctly..."

It is likely that it only seems like Americans speak clearer than other English speaking countries. The dominance of US English in the media is likely the culprit for skewing the average English language listener to more easily understand the standard American English than say British English. The US standard is catered to due to the countries financial reaching. English is the lingua franca of business and US is by far the most powerful English language economy so others cater towards that language bias.

This bias holds true within the country of US as well. Newscasters of major networks try to drop their regional accents in favor of a more commonly used Standard English accent. Recently a Hawaiian newscaster commented on her own accidental usage of her regional accent during a segment of the show. She returned to her Standard English accent for other segments.

I assure you there are plenty of accents in the U.S. which are quite indiscernible, even to other Americans.

Britain has a ton of different accents, some so different people have a hard time understanding. So I wouldn't say that America speaks more distinctly than other nations, americans just have an easier time spotting their own differences than they have spotting differences amongst other nations.

It is because Americans make it an effort when they are younger to speak good english so when they grow older, they have that good habit.. Better for oral grades during exams

Another reason might be that they are born, surrounded with people who speak good english so they naturally pick it up

Maybe. Because we tend to shorten sentences. In written speech, we can say how r u or something like that. What could be more distinct than that. Tommies never does it.

Everybody has their own problems. Indians like to add Sir to all their sentences. Besides, many people, applying for a work visa in the States, don't even realize how bad their English is. So please do me a favor. Pass https://promova.com/ to as many friends that you know. Let's make English great again.

This is a topic which has fascinated me for a long time.

Whilst I've never researched the reasons for this fact I have given it some thought and made a few amateurish conclusions.

There are of course many different American accents all of which, in my opinion, have one common-denominator being that they are refreshingly intelligible.

Generally speaking Americans are self-assured and self-reliant.

This self-confidence gives them the composure to speak slowly and pronounce their words to their full extent, and as they believe in what they're saying they express themselves with their usual distinctive American conviction.

Americans tend not to shorten words. This bad habit which is very prevalent with many English, Irish, Australian and especially the Scottish accents, can confuse the listener and lead to frustration and, in some cases administrative, mechanical and medical errors.

I also feel that with the merging of so many different nationalities who were required to communicate in English it was imperative that everyone including those from the various European and Asian nations all spoke their adopted country's de-facto language clearly and slowly.

If for instance I go to a foreign, non English speaking country whose native tongue I am unsure of I reason that if the person/people to whom I'm addressing has taken the trouble to learn my language the least I can do is to speak slowly distinctively and without adding unnecessary, dialect type words.

So, I feel that I speak English better to foreigners than I do to my countrymen.
