Why do we let cold colours represent "on" and warm colours represent "off"?
For example, usually a power lamp shows red or orange when the machine is off, and shows green or blue when the machine is on.
A RED traffic light means stop, thus turning OFF the flow of vehicles, whereas, a GREEN light allows traffic to continue ON with their journies. Otherwise I guess red is an internationally recognized colour for danger/warning and if a device is ON the potential hazard of its live state will be understood by all nationalities some of whom may not be familiar with the meaning of these words. |
