Same reason Quantumhead needs to do it. When you are crazy enough to believe the shit these guys believe you are crazy enough to ignore the fact that you wrote the response yourself. You just see another account that agreed with you.

I've seen this play out on two other debate websites. Although more than one member may have multiple avatars there is always at least one hydra-monster whose many heads coordinate to advance their arguments by mockery, deception, and peer pressure? Why. Well in some cases it's actually secretly the site owner, but I don't think that's the case here. In others it's stay at home people with lots of time on their hands who do it for self identity. Indeed someone else on this site earlier this year had linked to a Facebook account where someone named Brontoraptor had proclaimed themselves the world's greatest internet troll. I asked Bronto about it once and he said that must be some other Brontoraptor. And indeed that could be possible, but I think that's less possible than the likelihood he is a legless Cherokee veteran with a robotic arm.

It's an identity thing. It's you don't know who or what they are, but you're supposed to know they're the head puppetmaster, and that makes them happy.

I would expect it's someone with little else to do with their time. Granted they always brag about all the other things in their lives but then where they find the time to jerk all these strings makes no sense.
