Why is it important to care about the environment?

Hello A:

It's pretty simple, really.. Mother Nature provides a place where we can thrive... But, if we fuck with it, we won't...

Do you believe the environment has inherent value in itself ?

If one did not care about the environment it would be (or may become ) a matter of concern for your family , neighbours and fellow humans , surely it’s morally correct not to contaminate our water supplies and seas ( for example ) as otherwise we also inflict damage on ourselves also as well as others in the long run.

No I don’t , the only value it has is the one we place on it

Do you enjoy being alive?

Or just asking rhetorical or stupid questions on a debate website?

A more novel way to give a partial answer to your question would be to click onto the song, THE DAYS OF PEARLY SPENCER by David McWilliams.

Why is it important to care about the environment?

Hello A:

You've read about my Twofer plan, haven't you?? It's pretty simple..

Most right wingers don't wanna REDUCE our environmental footprint because they think it'll DESTROY our lifestyle. And, yes.. I suppose there are left wingers who'd relish the destruction of our capitalist economy.. But, I, personally, LIKE being warm, and I LIKE being mobile.. So, any solution that DOESN'T allow my family to thrive, ISN'T a solution at all..

Put a pin in that..

We ARE gonna run out of fossil fuel. That's just so.. So, if we don't solve that problem, the EARTH, all by itself, is gonna prevent us from continuing our lavish lifestyle.. So, let's SOLVE that problem, and the global warming problem gets solved as a bi-product. That's a twofer.

Now, of course, I don't KNOW if we can solve the running out of oil problem, but we gotta try - and we're not. I propose a Manhattan Project style of endeavor.. We need to put EVERYTHING we've got behind it. If we CAN'T solve the running out of oil problem, at least we'll go down swinging..

And, yes.. I suppose there are left wingers who'd relish the destruction of our capitalist economy

They do have a fairly long history of calling for sweeping, economically destructive changes for their predictions that turn out to either be false or not matter. When Marx’s economic predictions never came to fruition and it became apparent they never would, we began to hear about global cooling, population explosions, depleted oxygen from deforestation, the disappearance of the Amazon (Brazil has a whole conspiracy theory about that), the disappearance of oil reserves, all the frogs turning gay, so on and so forth. It’s not a great leap to begin to question motives.

But, I, personally, LIKE being warm, and I LIKE being mobile.. So, any solution that DOESN'T allow my family to thrive, ISN'T a solution at all..

I've often said that solutions must be economical, or they won't work. Remember the fluorescent lightbulb mandate? Those lightbulbs suck, and they have their own separate problem of environmental impact. It was nothing more than a crony pitch to GE. In the end, LED technology created superior lights that were far better for the environment, and no one had to force you to buy them.

We ARE gonna run out of fossil fuel

In 1980 there were 36.5 billion barrels of proved reserves (reserves that can be extracted both practically and economically). That was estimated to last about 10 years. Between 1980 and 2014 we consumed 111 billion barrels. By 2014 there 48 billion barrels. The increase in reserves is the result of increased oil scarcity, making it economical for companies to extract shale oil, thus driving our prices back down.

Perhaps I should post this in your other debate. But the point is that, while we will ultimately run out of oil, economic incentives are what drive solutions, not top-down mandates from an economic dictator.

As for global warming, it is theorized that our large brains evolved in part due to rapidly changing climate conditions. Just like all the other prediction based scares, this will turn out not to be that big of a deal. One thing that is very predictable from the data is that scientific forecasting is reliably unreliable. They consistently get predictions wrong.

I do. What is our home if not for our location? Would you not look negatively at a person who cries about a home being consumed by fire if they built near a volcano? Would we not want a home built on a steady foundation?

Are you scared you will not live very long ????????????

It isn't except that to the capitalist...it's a profit center.

All of the arguments here must first consider that obvious necessity in a for-profit,,,culture of prosperity.

Oil and other fossil fuels provide heat energy still for 200 years and is a great profit.

Profits are the goal...not care for the environment

All animals should be killed because their farts are killing the planet !!!!!!!!!!! LMAO!!!!!!!

All humans should die because their CO2 is dangerous to the earth !! ROTFFLMMFAO !

All you SnowFlakes worried about the environment is a good circus to watch oh and by the way Socialist killed the circus business and to expect me to take you idiots serious is just a joke and i just laugh at how stupid you idiots are !

1 point

I am confused here should you Leftist eliminate all the zoos in America because the farts are killing the environment ! You dummies need to know i am going to fuck with you and you know why because you idiots are way to easy !!!!! LMAO

This seems to be a hot topic so here’s my 2 cents:

I have no kids and I’m 52... so, why should I give a shit about the environment?!?! (But I do).

>>>> If u have kids and u don’t support sustainable energy

*then you are say “fuck my offspring “ !!!!

This is Not debatable bc at some point they will suffer

Secondly: what can it hurt to develop a sustainable energy system??? It can even create new jobs, etc

ULTIMATELY: if we would have a WAR or DISEASE that would greatly DEPOPULATE the earth- we could each live more extravagantly and still make less of a impact on the environment!!!

Fewer people could live better than huge population

The Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) has estimated overall remaining recoverable reserves and resources of up to 20 billion barrels.

However, it said significant investment was required in new field developments for untapped potential to be realised.

The answers to basic questions are the premises to more complex positions. That probably means you won’t care to continue very far.

Yes but you are an idiot and you don't have any complex questions. Your point is probably something along the lines of "the environment only matters insofar as it serves human needs therefor pollution isn't bad".
