Before I go any further, I should just say fuck how welfare is being handled. I don't approve. It's sloppy. That being said, from my base understanding, socialsm is just a less hardcore communism. You know. People help eachother out and we support people who aren't on their feet right now. We're missing the really important actual rehabilitation bit and our current 'socialist' policies are y'know. Stupid. More like 'give out free money to morons so they can keep being morons.' BUT! That being said. As we move closer to a more technological era, and more and more things are growing automated,(Some things already should be automated) you're going to find that there's going to be less and less secondary jobs. Most of the essential jobs are going to be in the farming and mining and refining industries. And there's going to be even more automation in these industries, too.

But to the point. As business models change(And they will, despite being incredibly stubborn) There's... just going to be less real work. Labor's going to be pointless, menial tasks for people that they only really do to say that they actually have a job. It's eventually going to get to a point where we're going to have to share the wealth and start exploring more artistic and scientific endeavors. But. Honestly. Not giving people basic needs is going to be more of like a dick thing that you do just because you want to fold your arms and say, "If they're not doing their part, they're jerks and I hate them and they should work for a livin'. Hrmph." Which yes. I think people should be productive members of society and not crazy drug-addled fiends, but we are going to reach a point, and probably already have where most of the laboring people do is going to be pointless.

Please, if you're going to come in here swinging, rage-laden and grumbly, don't bother posting. I'm actually curious as to the intelligent arguments against moving towards more socialistic policies.
