Will Hurricane Issac bring as much destruction as Katrina?

Will Hurricane Issac bring as much destruction as Katrina?  Many people are already out of power and it looks like the gulf coast is going to get hammered.  Will it be as bad as Katrina?  Will the rain help the Mississippi return to regular traffic?

What do you think?

Yes, Issac will be as bad!

The talking heads say "no", but I think it's 50-50. The talking heads mention how Katrina was as strong as a Cat. 5 at times and Isaac is just a Cat. 1. Especially in a place like New Orleans, it's all about the rainfall, since NOLA is below sea leve. As they said themselves, twenty inches of rain will flood any city. Add high tide and storm surge to the mix and at a minimum things are going to get very wet. There probably won't be as much wind damage as last time, but really the water is enough. If you know anything about water damage, you know it pretty well ruins everything it touches.

I have to agree with you about the rain and water. They are predicting that at a minimum the pumps will not be able to compensate for all the rain so some flooding is expected. It could get much worse!

Hurricane Issac is God's punishment for Republicans because of the evil they've done!

Actually, I think it is the way to get bleeding heart Democrats to feel sympathy for the RNC and they will all change their votes to Romney.

I suppose that's another perfectly valid interpretation of events, and I have no argument against it. But I still like my interpretation better. :)

Okay, then why didn't Issac hit Tampa like was originally thought?

It's sad; everyone's getting worked up about something that hasn't happened yet. However the people it has killed in Haiti, not a word on the news...

That's because it only matters when Americans are killed...

There, is that what you wanted someone to say?

ummm... no. Not even close. Issac is a wimpy cat 1, Katrina was a cat 5 at one point,(6th most powerful ever recorded) but 3 at landfall.

Issac is the beneficiary of a "slow news day".

Side: No, Issac will not be bad!

Since the idiots in government screwed up majorly with the Katrina thing, they will over dramatize every single one from now on.

Side: No, Issac will not be bad!

Issac is not as powerful as Katrina was.

I don't really think it will bring much destruction as Katrina but we can never know until it finally happens so we have to wait and see and some of us need to be prepared!

Side: No, Issac will not be bad!

Nowhere near as bad. I live in south mississippi, and I went through katrina. Katrina is several orders of magnitude worse than Isaac. It wasn't until 2010 that most of the coast had been rebuilt from Katrina. Isaac will probably take a few weeks to clean up, maybe a month.

No, Issac is a category 1 hurricane while Katrina was a category 5 when it hit New Orleans. The only reason why Issac is getting so much media attention is because it follows the same path as Katrina. We were also unprepared for Katrina as it changed course so fast unlike Issac in which we had alot of warning. No, Issac will not be that bad.

One day, I want to take a hit so big that when I exhale it shows up on the weather radar and is mistaken for Hurricane Issac.

According to investigations and statistics Hurricane Issac will bring less destruction as Katrina Hurricane. First of all, the rotation of sustained winds of at least 39mph(63 kph), whereas the rotation of tropical storm of Katrina was 65mph(105kph). Besides,Isaac had less intensity . It stayed a tropical storm for a week, when its maximum sustained winds picked up to 75 mph (121 kph), comparing to Katrina 127 mph (204 kph), still a major hurricane. Katrina caused $125 billion in damage and 1800 was killed in Louisiana, New Orleans. However, since 2005 year people constructing heavily reinforced floodwalls along the canals, and installing a new system of pump stations, preparing for hurricane(Issac). Finally, according to CNN, mandatory evacuations have been ordered in Louisiana, Mississippi and so on, whereas during destruction of Katrina, many disabled and people without car were not evacuated and died. To sum up i would like to say probably Isaac Hurricane will be less harm than Katrina was.
