Working Less to Avoid Taxation?

Do people actually work less hours when their wages are raised to avoid being taxed in a higher income bracket? Have you ever done this? Do the benifits of more leisure time outweigh the cost of higher taxes? I have no stance on this I just read this theory in a book.

High taxation natural tendency is less work so less taxation. I did then and still do it today, the extra work isn't worth the money lost in more taxation.

It's hard to move up a tax bracket. A single person who makes $87,850 a year is in the 28% bracket, and they'll stay in that bracket until they make $183,250. Even then, they'll only be in the 33% bracket. I don't think such a small increase in federal tax is going to deter you much from working.
