Although President Bush grew the federal government extensively, Al Gore probably would have dwarfed President Bush's government growth as President Obama's growth of government is dwarfing President Bush's. Government owns 40% of the economy where 25% is the federal government, which means that 40% of the economy will never grow because the government can't create wealth or jobs, it merely transfers wealth and jobs because it possesses no assets. In today's society, government only grows as it exploded in the 1970's. "What we have today is not a capitalist society, but a mixed economy – that is, a mixture of freedom and controls, which, by the presently dominant trend, is moving toward dictatorship. The action in Atlas Shrugged takes place at a time when society has reached the stage of dictatorship.
