Even a dozen deaths in school shootings over a decade is way too many.

And if your kid were one one of the deaths, you would say that ONE is too many.

While I agree that even one death from a school shooting is too much, that isn't particularly relevant to what I was saying over all. That said, I can't blame you since I only elaborated on the other side.

So I would say that yes, we should spend money and resources on correcting other dangerous practices that cause more deaths, and also spend the money on armed guards for schools as well, Why not do both? After all, the money spent for guards art schools would be a drop in the bucket, financially speaking. Compared to say, the billions spent on useless pork barrel projects like useless holes in the ground or highways leading to nowhere.

The source I got the figures from actually got the citation wrong on 2005, as it was 618 shots with only 35 hits.

But you pushing me to further reevaluate the figures send me to the actual source: The NYPD Firearms Discharge Report, and I managed to find the 2012 Copy.

The most recent year in it (2012, of course), has interesting figures: 444 shots fired, only 30 hits.

You'll notice the percentage of hits is actually far, far worse than my original source claimed.

Considering the fact that, of the largest police precinct in the country, cops only hit about ~10% of the time (that's being generous), and how within the past decade there were shy of 100 deaths from school shootings, I think it's safe to say that the presence of armed cops guarding schools might potentially provide no net positive in terms of safety for the children.

And all that is, of course, not considering the impact armed cops in schools has had on escalation of violent events, brutality against children, and the most problematic and prevalent, the increased trend of children being sent into juvenile prison for offenses that used to be handled by principles offices, leading them down a path that altogether too often finds them back in prison due to the effects juvenile prison has on so many children.

Simply put, said cops have had little positive effect, and significant negative effect, on the well being of the children in question."

More guns on a campus means more chances of a student getting shot. Wouldn't you agree? I found this in an article. As he angrily exited the campus, the student got into a heated run-in with an armed school security guard from the private firm Pinkerton.

Threats were exchanged, and the student suddenly reached into his coat.

Feeling threatened, the guard pulled out a gun and fired at the student—but missed badly. The bullet ricocheted off the concrete before connecting with a different 15-year-old student, just below his torso. Miraculously, the bullet hit the student’s cellphone and caused only superficial damage. Police later discovered the suspended student was unarmed.”
