Would you blow up convicted criminals to save yourself?

I was watching "The Dark Knight," eating popcorn, and drinking hot chocolate during a major thunderstorm today when I thought I'd suggest the Joker's social experiment to y'all.

If the only way to save yourself and a ferry full of civilians like yourself was to blow up a ferry full of convicted criminals, would you blow them up?

Of course. I'm selfish, and there's no reason to sacrifice both boats of people (or just our boat) in the name of "honor" or "selflessness".

Well, in the all unlikely situation, yes, I would. There's no point in dying when you can stop it.

Especially since odds are Batman won't be able to save us in time.

if we had to reali choose one, like we had to. jail people because they were bad and why do all these good people deserve to die if they just want to live a crime free life.

Has your life really been entirely crime-free? And the lives of your family and friends and loved ones? I think it's severely judgmental to call those in prison "bad" and those out of prison "good."

Yes. Yes I would. If it meant my family and good innocent people surviving, then I would do it. Of course, I would live with the guilt for the rest of my life.

I WOULD do this.

If it came down to survival, the only thing you can think for is yourself. You are the most important person in your life, and unless you're a religious nut, and have an absolute moral standing to put others before yourself (no matter what), your natural instinct would tell you to do what it took to survive.

And even still, the criminals obviously did something to put themselves on the point. The civilians are innocent, having done nothing wrong, like the criminals have. Stupidity leads to ignorance, and ignorance leads to prison.

If it were up to me, it wouldn't just be a ferry full of criminals that I would blow up, to survive. I'd go so far to say every jail in the world ((Assuming the guards were gone, and those who had been wrongly convicted were let free.))

You can't negotiate with terrorists.

In theory, I wouldn't do this. Myself and many of my loved ones have done many, many things that are illegal and put us in prison/jail. I don't think I could morally justify saving myself by murdering people who I truly don't believe are any worse than I am (generally).

Of course, this sounds great in theory, but in practice, I don't think it would be that easy.

It's so easy to be selfish and say you would blow them up. But it's probably one of the most difficult things you would ever do to actually pull the trigger. I don't think I'd be able to pull the trigger.

I loved the look on the jokers face when he realized nobody blew anyone up. It was the first time in the movie that you see him defeated.

Batman: "This city just showed you that they are ready to believe in good"

And thats the point.

I think a lot of people say they would blow the other boat up, when in reality they would chicken out, just like that one guy in the movie.

I don't like negotiating with threats like that. I say be repaired to save everyone with force.

Side: No!

I know I couldn't do this in a million years...I'd simply jump ship.

Side: No!

Ah, but the Joker specifies that if anyone tries to get off the boat, both ferries will be immediately exploded. Although I guess that would be the end result anyway, if you didn't blow up the other ferry. But then I'd feel so guilty about everyone else dying... unless we all jumped off in an organized effort!

That seems to be the best solution.

I would have before I saw batman, but as always batman teaches everyone an important lesson on what being a good person means.

It really depends on what they did, but I would probably say no. They could be people that were wrongfully convicted. They also could be a bunch of child molesters, which blowing them up would not be that bad, but I would not do it because regardless of who it is human life is sacred. Plus couldn't you jump off the ferry?

if possible neither but they deserve to be put in jail for the rest of there life.

No, not really. In fact, while watching that scene, I was wondering why they didn't add a more GENIUS storyline, like, a better way to escape? Instead, it landed an ultimatum, and ultimately, it'll never be that simple in the real world... so, I won't NEED to blow up a boat of criminals for my survival.
