A leader should be elected based on his policies, not his personal preferences that have no effect to his politics. Supporting LGBT marriage is not something that is wrong. The only reason it would be wrong is because religion says so, but religion is unlikely to be true, so that aspect is void. Even if Jesus returned tomorrow, it would mean nothing. For the USA, a country where one is given religious freedom, even if Jesus came down to tell us to reform and change our ways, without due process and a vote, he would be only a regular man in the eyes of the government and fair voting process.
