Your Thoughts on the $172 Billion Greece Bailout?

European Finance Ministers just provisionally agreed to a $172 billion dollar bailout (for those not familiar with the value of the dollar, that is approximately a metric fuckton of money).

A necesary expenditure or a useless waste of money they don't have?

I don't know what the answer to your last question is but I'm sure we're going to find out ;)

It might even spare the Greek economy, and they might even recover, but eventually we will all hit a new global depression. Modern economies are unsustainable. World debt out numbers world GDP by a 2:1 ratio, and it's getting worse.

So, deficits and debt do matter as Greece is so gracefully displaying.

Well I dunno about you guys, but when the next depression hits I'm gonna go find me a nice cave in the forest to live in ;)

Depends on how Greece uses it.

They are more than capable of paying it back over time if they use it to create jobs instead of shovling it in the treasury to pay part of past debts... which is what they've been doing with the money they've been getting.

WHY? they should not have let them go. I mean they let them go before too and i feel that some may start taking advantage of it. Even some other countries may take advantage.

When you see the rest of Europe helping Greece get out of it's mess, than you need to remember that they're tied along with it. They have the same currency and if Greece forgoes the euro, than it's a pretty bad situation all around for Europe (except Britain)

Glad to know that it's possible to lie, follow bad policies, live selfish lifestyles, basically not do their job well, and then still have their responsibilities taken care of.

I understand that it's not the people who should be punished, but there does need to be a motivation to the government to do their job properly.

This is actually a lot better than what could have been if the euro tanked completely. If Greece loses the euro, than we might as well give up on the EU because- other than Britain which wasn't stupid enough to sign in- they're all doomed.

Still this is only a temporary reprieve; if Greece doesn't get it's act together, and its economy doesn't get a major shock yet again, then it might even pull through. It's a pretty delicate situation though and a lot of people are voting for it's demise.
