can we really define "normal" ?

Do you use it? Do you call certain things "normal" and not other things? Why?

It's a word like regular. Just because people live out their lives differently doesn't mean there is no definition of normal. What is in common with each person? If you find a trait in most people, like that they all grow hear, and then one person is not growing hair, the people with the hair are normal.

Even if there is no clear definition written in english, then still there is a way of defining it by a thought process or equation. There is something there that makes the word work, what is that? Why do you call certain things normal and not others? When you think about using, your mind is pulling up a tool that it uses to measure something and determine whether or not it is normal... It's a thought process that leads you to call something normal or not. If you can't figure out the definition, it's just an equation.

i don't think we can ever define what is normal. how one person goes about his day will never be how another person goes about their day exactly. the customs in the u.s. will never be the same customs as those in europe or australia.

there may be similarities but there will never really be a normal that we could all meet at a common ground.

We probably could define normal but it would be so vague that it would be meaningless and it would still be difficult to do. Because of different customs of different people the likely hood of them having the same definition of normal is very small. Take for instance a Russian talking to an American say on a vacation. The Russian would feel it is normal to be much closer in proximity to whom they are talking to, while the american needs more breathing space thus the american might not think the russian is normal because they are so close, maybe even a freak, while the russian might think the american is being disrespectful or not willing to talk by stepping back and thus not normal.

the problem of defining an idea is that people have different opinions of it so only generic definitions can exist, such as defining love and honor.

normal is how everything is suposed to happen or how everyone is supoosed to act but how often is that? What is normal to me may be abnormal to you.

How do you know what is normal to you, and what makes you think that others have different standards?

i don't think there is such a thing as normal for everyone. there's normal for certain people, but not a normal that can be defined to everyone.
