There is no god, so no.

However, even if there were, it would be silly to suggest that god helps those who help themselves, because you're arguing that god doesn't actually lift a finger to assist people.

Why would God only help those whom don't need his help? He should be helping everyone else! =p

Side: No

I think this is true. All those lazy toddlers in Africa who weigh as much as a bag of chips and die with empty bellies and mouths full of sand and flies before their third birthdays have done nothing to help themselves, so clearly this is why God has done fuck all to help any of them.

Tune in next time for the "Everything happens for a reason" debate.

are you on the "yes" side or "no" side?? If on the "yes" side, please post it there

I'm assuming you are on the "yes" side. As you said, "all those lazy toddlers in Africa...have done nothing to help themselves," so God has abandoned them because they weren't helping themselves. Well, how the fuck could they??!! 1. they are poor 2. they live in poor environments 3. they are not lazy, in fact they are probably more fucking hardworking than you and me are.

This pretty much proves that God either does not exist or he abandoned all of us. They were probably praying to God to help them rid of their misery yet God, so benevolent as he is, prefer to help "those who help themselves?" instead of 3-year-old toddlers on the verge of death?!

Even though you don't understand sarcasm and accidentally supported the "yes" side, I see that we share the position that God is either impotent, pernicious or nonexistent, so I won't endeavor to embarrass you any further.

"God helps those who help themselves"

This statement, as many believe, is actually not in the bible. In fact, it was coined by Benjamin Franklin (who was a deist) in Poor Richard's Almanac in 1757. The opposite is written in the Bible, in which God helps the helpless: Isaiah 25:4.

So the answer is no, and if the Christian God existed, which I don't believe so, he would help the starving children of Africa, the war-torn regions of Afghanistan, and drug/alcohol addicts.
