is it bad to write upon someones issues to make publicity or money?

You are finishing a cookbook. You are generally a fine author who has been on the charts for your bestselling cookbooks. Thus, you write a author's page, about your friend favorite dish is your baby back ribs. You go on to write she gain a lot of weight but loved the ribs! The story is observe on a forum and many people have mixed views:

"What a b#$@! She uses her friend and also makes fun of her to promote food. Disgusting!"

"She wasn't trying to make her look bad! All she said was that she ate the food and gain a few pounds."

Here is a passage that made this thing become live:

Kayla and I were close. But my Baby Back Ribs and her were closer. The recipe was made by me and her together on a bright evening in Miami. Kayla and I was just having a blast till she sparked the idea. Once said, I was hooked! We made these ribs using the best herbs and seasonings the city of Miami could offer. But after eating em, I was shock to see Kayla gaining a couple pounds the second she finished but she said in the end "it was worth it."

READ THE PASSAGE!!!

We see that the cookbook was a source of income to you but this probably only happen because of the curosity you made from this conflict. Kayla hasn't responded yet on the story and nevertheless, she hasn't responded to your calls. You believe you might have made her depressed. Now think to yourself... Was this the right call?

Clarification: You are answering if what you did was right. This is a bit complex but enjoy!

ex. No! I know I did this wrong because.............

In this context, it doesn't really help the writer and may actually hurt her a little bit.

Personally, I don't think it's all that damaging, but it doesn't strengthen the writing at all.

It's not like readers see that line and think "oh, I gotta buy this book now. Her friends is getting fat." They may not think anything of at all, but if they think anything it's more likely to be along the lines of "this writer's a bitch. I don't know that I want to buy her book. Fuck her!"
