obama vs bush

with the presidential election only a few years away, we will hear a lot of rhetoric coming from Republicans and Democrats on who we have faired worse under. Bush and the Republicans or Obama and the Democrats. So, I have taken it upon myself to look up the numbers myself. Using non partisan sights, this is what I found: (BY THE NUMBERS)  VACATIONS Bush 407, Obama 125 PRIVATE SECTOR JOBS CREATED Bush negative 462,000 Obama 5,685,000 UNEMPLOYMENT RATE Bush 7.8 Obama 6.2 EMPLOYMENT POPULATION RATIO Bush 60.6% Obama 59% MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME Bush negative 4.2% Obama negative 4.9% APPROVAL RATING AT THIS POINT OF PRESIDENCY Bush 36.2% Obama 41.6% ECONOMIC GROWTH Bush 1.7% Obama 1.6% FEDERAL SPENDING Bush +3.9% Obama +2.5% FEDERAL DEFICIT Bush $1413 billion Obama $480 billion STARTING DEBT/ENDING DEBT/INCREASE Bush 5.6 trillion/10.6 trillion/+1.52.  Obama 10.6 trillion/17.9 trillion/+1.59  I am independent, not democrat or republican. I have no allegiance to either side, and equal disdain for both, so I did not alter any numbers to favor one or the other. Which was worse, and why? ( Sources: Forbes, presidentialdebt.org, fact check.org, Washington post and the inquisitr.com among others )

Bush was worse

According to the above numbers, Obama would be worse because: 1 his employment population ratio (actual people working) is lower, 2 lower median household income,3 lower economic growth and 4 bigger increase in national debt.

While "by the numbers" is interesting, IMHO it provides an incomplete analysis of the success or failure of a thing as complex as a presidency.

I would add one more basis for judgment. A president is first of all a leader. Leaders seek to unite.

Who was the better leader in terms of uniting or nation and leading with principled values as their guide.

Well, the response doesn't have to be based on these numbers. It just gives some food for thought. I like your point on unity. It does seem to me that congress and the executive branch are more divided than I have ever seen. ( Please note I am on neither side. It shows I picked Obama because I put my comment on that side first)

Yes the divisions are deep and getting deeper. A fierce struggle is taking place between nearly opposite views of what our nation should be. Have to say that the center is not where it was 50 years ago. We have moved left in many many ways, the most obvious being the size and scope of our federal government. It causes me to wonder if our founders would conclude their "great experiment" in self governance has worked or failed. What do you think.

Jesus fucking Christ! It's going to take a good 10/12 years from now for us to know this for sure. Bush REALLY fucked up by going to war with Iraq. That was a major mistake BUT DingleBarry is just a terrible person/politician... he seems to be a little racist, he has a chip on his shoulder, he's NOT a leader, he can't compromise, he can't admit to making a mistake, he's just an arrogant asshole

Could you please explain why and expound on your opinion for us.

Why can't we have another Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagan?

I'm not terribly fond of either of them.

But the Iraq war fiasco was too much for me.

We don't need a cowboy who deserted his military duties sending countless Americans off to die. And his public lies concerning the so-called evidence of WMDs in Iraq didn't help my opinion of him.

Obama had his issues too, including pushing Obama care instead of fighting for a public option and using his drones to violate international rules of war.

Neither of them deserved a second term, but I sincerely believe Bush did more harm to his country.

Excellent points on not only the Iraq war ( which I was against) and obama care ( which I am also against). These last two presidents are rated the worst ever in several polls. whether or not that's true, who knows? Do you think both parties would be served well to simply avoid these two names? Do you think they will?

I think America as a whole should move beyond Bush.

Obama's presidency is harder to critique since we are still right here in it.

I am waiting for his term to end however.

Will the politicians distance themselves from either of them in the 16 elections? I don't know, but in both cases it would probably be wise.

Side: obama is worse

Obama is no where near as bad as Bush. Sure the guys made mistakes and I wont deny it but comparing Bush to him is dumb. Bush is on a whole other level compared to Obama in terms of who's fucked up our country more.

Side: Bush was worse

According to the above numbers, Bush would be worse because: 1 no private sector jobs created ( in fact he lost them), 2 higher unemployment, 3 lower approval rating( favored by less people) 4 more government spending, and 5 higher federal deficit.

Side: Bush was worse

Being less favored, is kind of ironic when he won both elections but that's irrelevant.

Adding to Bush being worse (me believing the president is just a figure head) Bush having a lower approval rating makes him a very bad president, since as president his goal is to be the solace of the people.

Lower approval rating is vital! I agree. And even though 41% is not all that great, hitting the 30`s is absolutely horrid. Wow, is all I can say. Good point. ( Please note I am on neither side. It shows I picked Obama because I commented on that side first)

George Bush and the republicans were in power leading up to the greatest financial crisis since the great depression, plus they got us into 2 illegal and unjustifiable wars. Obama brought Healthcare reform, financial reform, and is now using executive power to reduce Co2 emissions. Obama is the best president since the Vietnam war era.

Bush and the republicans have done nothing about immigration reform since the 1980's. At least Obama is DOING SOMETHING. Yes that's one more reason why Obama is a better president.

COMMON REPUBLICANS: DO SOMETHING!

Side: Bush was worse

President Bush caused the recession plus the Middle East wars.
