Of course poetry should be taught in high school; i reckon it should be made compulsory. In some parts of the western world the levels of literacy are very low. Seriously, what harm could it do anyways; the worst that could happen is a few kids end up learning new words and new ways of expressing themselves. some might even grow up to become poets, which would be great considering the severe lack of poets around at the moment. Side: yes
I'm not entirely sure if I agree with it being compulsory, but if it was I wouldn't complain. When I was in HS I took a poetry class and got a lot out of it. As far as the dearth of poets these days, that probably has to do with the difficulties in making a living as a poet in the modern world. If more young people were into poetry the situation might change, so maybe you're on to something. Side: yes
If teenagers are artistic and want to learn about poetry, then they should defiantly have a chance to learn it, but in a separate class at a center instead of high school. Not everyone likes to express themselves through poetry, and it's actually insulting when the person is mocking it by whipping up something the night before just so they can pass. There is no "severe lack of poets", there are millions! Some just aren't published yet, but poetry is defiantly not something we should worry about losing touch in, so why do we have to force students to learn something they will never have the passion to do on their own? It's called Independence. Side: yes

Of course. Poetry is a way of us young people to express ourselves. If anything we need to be taught more poetry and not just a teeny tiny little bit that we have now. If I didn't have poetry...I wouldn't be able to live. I live and breath poetry a lot of the time. I rely on it, maybe a little to much but still. Side: yes
Peekaboo what your saying is a load of St education in language and literature. If you're going to teach students to appreciate short stories, novels, and plays, why not do poetry as well? you must be made!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Home Peekaboo go to you mum and dad Side: Yes

As long as it's not: Sometimes it seems like stupid people grow on trees, She said, And walked away Like it was all my fault That the availability of scissors was a cause for concern I turned, And drove a box down the halway To wash plastic stars and paper planets Smiled at a job well done. Does that actually make any sense at all? Side: Yes
