should college athletes get paid?

Should College athletes get paid?

College athletes should get paid or not. My opinion on the subject is that they should be paid just like the NFL. Some people may say that it is wrong to pay college kids money for playing sports because they say that if they pay for your scholarship they shouldn't have to get paid for playing sports.

3.5 million from the BCS and another 14.9 million distributed among the big 12 conference teams. The problem is, the athletes who help schools and conferences make that money do not see a dime of it. If college players were paid, it might keep those borderline NBA players in college. Some schools say they don't have a problem with the athletes working to make some money but they will not pay them to play sports. If they where to et paid it would help basketball mostly but we also help baseball, and football but not as much basketball. An example of this would be vince young he makes millions in the NFL but he didn't get paid to help texas when he played for them.

The college association takes a lot of money in ever year but they can't pay for athletes to play sports. My opinion is that its stupid that they don't get paid. Michel Jordan played for North Carolina and he never got paid but when he went to the NBA he was paid lots and of money.

Some reasons people think that they shouldn't get are they already get paid with a college degree  they shouldn't  get paid to play sports. A friend of mine thinks they should get paid but its because he thinks that they have no reason to get paid do to the point for years athletes have been boring their hearts out day after day, week after week, to protect the pride and tradition of their universities. They have contracts with television productions and shoe deals alone, the athletes are really bringing in the money and other forms of revenue. Other players of the college group would love to be paid but if they were paid not all the players would make money.

Some references is that the NCAA  limitation placed upon scholarships allocation hurt sports. College students perceptions on the payment of intercollegiate student athletes. My self saying I think that the NCAA should decide if the should get paid or not. What I say is if college athletes are as good as NFL players then they should be treated like them and get paid to play.

They should get paid because of the income the college receives.

Yes they should, they are being pressured into making these super high grades, attending class, doing good in every game, and making sure they are injure free. They have to maintaine(probably didn't spell right) their scholarship, and with all of this they don't have enough time to get a job and work. They don't get paid enough anyways. If they are being treated like professionals why not get paid like one?

The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) is a multi-billion dollar business, where the athletes are making almost all their money, but they aren’t earning any of it. During this year’s March Madness alone, the NCAA made a total of $10.8 billion dollars, none of that going to the players. The NCAA is making too much money to not pay that players. After all this is basically their full time job, if the athletes aren’t getting paid then some of them could be poor.

The NCAA makes a boatload of money whether it is March Madness, College Football, or the College Baseball World Series, and the people making all the billions of dollars for the NCAA, the athletes, aren’t earning one penny. According to the website, “The Business Insider,” The top three college basketball programs making the most money were Syracuse making a profit of $27,211,555; Duke University making a profit of $31,55,570; and Louisville University, making a profit of $41,670, 685. If the colleges are making all that money, the players deserve some of it.

Another reason I believe college athletes deserve to be paid is because some athletes are very poor. While a scholarship will help a college athlete, they still have to pay for food, equipment, and gas. One former college basketball player and hall of famer, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar once said, “It was frustrating winning championship after championship every year, hear thousands chant my name, and then go back to my dorm to count my change to buy a burger.” College was a struggle for Kareem because he was constantly winning and winning, but he could barely buy dinner because he was so poor. In the same article another former college basketball player, Shabazz Napier, who is now in the NBA, described his experience in college. “We do have hungry nights that we don’t have enough money to get food in… Sometimes there's hungry nights where I’m not able to eat, but I still gotta play up to my capabilities.” Of course if college athletes were to get paid, they would at least be able to afford dinner every night.

The final reason why I believe college athletes should get paid is playing the sport they play is there full time job, and they have no financial help during the season to help pay for the growing expenses of a college student, including, groceries and other essentials like that. In the same article Kareem also said, “What made it even worse was that students with academic scholarships were allowed to work jobs during the school year while we were forbidden to. And if we were injured seriously enough that we couldn’t play anymore, our scholarships were revoked, despite the medical bills adding up. We were only as valuable as our ability to tote that ball and lift that score.” If college athletes were to get paid they would have some support for the stuff they need, and not be worried about their financial status.

It is finally time to pay college athletes. There are too many reasons to pay college athletes and no enough reasons to not. It is crazy to me when I see the star players of college basketball or football, and see them in the finals or a big game televised on ESPN, and then think that they are doing this for free. The college athletes should be getting paid and should be recognized by the colleges for making all billions of dollars for them.

The college needs the money, not the players. College athletes don't need to worry about money and politics, college is for education.
