should high schools give out condoms to high school students

use as many statistics as possible

Yes they should, giving condoms to these young people could reduce STDs, underage pregnancy and the amount of illegitimate children being brought in to this world. It would also promote safe sex.

Side: Yeah

I think they should because I come from Jamaica and in the high schools here, having sex is like the in thing. Most teens nah go wah buy the pills bcuz di pill dem 2 pricy for some ppl, especially the girls, and not everything agrees with our bodies. The condom on the other hand is safe, quick, more accesible and practical for teenagers, especially in school.

Side: Yeah

Yes without a doubt they should. If condoms were available more publicly I would most likely see less impregnated teens, and STD's would begin a nicely sized decrease with high schoolers.

Side: Yeah

condoms should be issued in schools as it is a way of protecting ourselves. contraceptives has a number of side effects that can harm our bodies and leads on to further sickness.this is also helps our present personals that fail to abstain if they know that they are not ready for a child. this reduces the pregnancy rate or the rate of unwanted children of todays world.when we reduce the rate of unwanted children we reduce the rate of suffering.

Side: Yeah

They should offer them for students in the nurse's office or something. It doesn't have to be given out to everyone in order to be freely available.

I don't understand why we wouldn't want to make protection available and help kids protect themselves from having unwanted pregnancies or getting STD's.

It's not like there are a group of kids out there NOT having sex because they don't have access to protection. It is exactly the opposite. There's already a group of kids out there having sex, regardless of the protection they have access to.

Yes they should and they should also educate these students about sex and responsibility.

Side: Yeah

Yes they should. Many would dispute that giving out condoms is the equivalent of advocating pre-marital sex. But youngsters are youngsters, we all are hot-blooded. As much as youths are rash and irrational at times, I'm sure at this time and age, majority of youths living in developed/developing areas are well educated in sex. There will be youths who exercise abstinence and I'm sure something as small as a condom wouldn't sway their stand on abstaining from pre-marital sex if given to them in school.

As for the high school students who are more than willing to engage in pre-marital sex, measures have already been done to dissuade them from doing it. Think sex education in schools, think statistics about HIV and abortion rates overtly thrown in the faces of these youngsters, think pictures of repercussions of sexually transmitted diseases often shown to mature high school students. These measures I feel are done enough to deter students from engaging in casual sex but if they insist, condoms now will come in handy.

The condoms can help to reduce risks of becoming pregnant and transmission of STDs and all of the problems that will come subsequently to both the society and to the students.

Condoms should not be seen as a tool of promoting sex but rather, the problem preventor (if there is such a word).

my best friends sister was pregnant in high school and she graduated high school with honors and taking AP classes with a baby. They don't have to drop out because they are pregnant they choose to.

The giving of condoms in schools is one so many argue about. Having been a teen mother myself, I would say it's they most definitely need to give theses middle and high school students condoms. When I was in high school, there were so many pregnant teens that we had our own class that was a substitute for gym. Sad isn't it? And some of those girls said that nobody ever told them about condoms. Not even their parents. They said they had learned about them in school but never gave them a second thought or glance. So what better way to educate these students than to put condoms in their grips and tell and show them how to use them. Some of the girls even gave their children up for adoption because they didnt want them. So it would prevent unwanted pregnancies and STD's. Give them condoms and help them lead a safe sex life

Side: Yeah

With all the promiscuity, it would be pragmatic for high schools to distribute condoms.

the point I'm trying to make is kids need alternative birth control. i can count the number of times Ive used a condom with one hand.... they should use the depo shot or pill or so on........condoms are Wac when it comes to sex so they don't use em...as far as info, basically through casual conversations about sex with male friends/co workers/ sports teammates and so on. i rarely meet a guy who uses em. we just expect our girl to get on the pill

Maybe in a school of undereducated kids, but a sex education class teaches the utility of condoms and other birth control.

The point of handing condoms out in high school is to make the easily available so the kids don't resort to unprotected sex.

If the school board had members pay out of their own pocket to buy condoms for teens, than sure.

But that isn't the case. Tax payers should not have to pay for teen's condoms. That's retarded and a breach on our economic freedoms. Talk about big government ~_~

I would rather pay for their condoms than their baby.

Isn't the point of taxes, in part, to fund and improve society as a whole? Isn't a lower rate of pregnancy and STDs in teenagers a desirable outcome for everybody?

Free condoms won't encourage teens to use condoms. Better feeling ones do.

If teens want to have sex, whether a condom is free or not will not change whether they wish to use that condom. C'mon.

Why the fuck not, YOU'RE the ones who are personally concerned, you're demanding the government do something without funding, the fact is that if you aren't willing to pay for something like this, you aren't really that concerned, or are you just one of those people who haven't, emotionally, moved past infancy.

Well it is either paying a couple bucks more on taxes for condoms or a lot more money for any social programs the mothers will apply for after having the kid, such as WIC or medicaid or something along those lines.

Side: yeah

I say no, but only because giving someone a condom doesn't prevent anything. They should be taught how to put on condoms, how to prevent STD's, and how to prevent themselves from getting pregnant. If giving out condoms were paired with education, then I would say yes.

Side: No
1 point

Well personally I believe that this some what encourages sex to the teens. This sends a message "okay don't have it tell your married but take this just in case you get lucky". The idea of having sex should be completely abolished in the minds of the students. They shouldn't give out condoms because they should have warned and informed the children of the dangers and irresponsibilities of having intercourse in such a powerful way that they shouldn't even be worried that the children even have the idea of having sex. Therefore I say no because condoms can imply the idea of having intercourse.

Hormones already supply a sex drive and let's face it,the whole abstinance thing's not only ineffective, it actually implies sex in the first place, the only way to avoid this is to remove sexual education all together. The fact is that supplying condoms is at least going to curb the danger, which is more than I can say for what you're doing now. MAN, I need to get laid!

Condoms imply the idea of having intercourse.

Find me a teenager that doesn't want to have sex. As a teenager you come into sexual maturity these days at a time that society deems it wrong for you to have sex.

The idea of having sex should be completely abolished in the minds of the students.

Biologically they are in the prime of their reproductive lives, the hormonal drive to procreate is there. The fact is with or without condoms teenagers are going to have sex, they have always been and they always will, even before sex education in schools.

Handing out condoms is a responsible idea as even if it stops one percent of teenage pregnancy that can only be a good thing, right? Not to mention saving lives and slowing the spread of STIs. Not giving them condoms is like putting your fingers in your ears and closing your eyes and shouting na na na na na na na if I ignore it it will go away.

And then we get back to reality and recognise that without condoms teens are getting pregnant, having abortions, and contracting STIs all of which would be prevented by simple condom dispensers in the bathrooms and a non-stigmatised view of sex.

All you're arguing for is a society that has more teen pregnancies and diseases.

Its not the school systems responsibility to give the students condoms its the parents or the guardian of the child. All you are saying is go ahead and have sex as long as its safe sex and you wear a condom its okay. Is that what you want to tell your 15 year old?

Really? parents are supporting sex in high schools? free condoms will make teens want to do it more, why would they care about std or syphilis ... do you really want your kids dropping everything they worked for and all the good things you supported them to do in their lives... to take care of babies? teens cannot even take care of themselves.. you know who has to bail them out.. you do.. either you take care of your teens kid or go murder a new life entering this world.. you probably would not have mind if your mom had an abortion on you then you would not have the opportunity to have a life. My opinion does not count because media is promoting sex, and girls may have forgotten that the more guys they sleep with the sluttier and disgusting they are. Guys never have the blame in any of this because they can never disgrace their family the way girls can. for those who support it.. i guess when your daughter is called a whore in highschool bc they guy she slept with has spread her name and ruined her.. then i guess you agree with that too.. as for guys.. if guys agree with sleeping around.. then good luck when they get married bc they can never hold a proper relationship long enough without sex. sex isn't everything and its unbelievable people are letting their children ruin their own names

I am a teen mom and im not on any of those, not even the low income. No i do not mooch off of my parents. I work as soon as i get out of school and Quintayveus works all day.
