A religion is a system of beliefs and behaviors. Each religion began in a different way, but always with someone laying out those behaviors and specifying those beliefs at some point. That is exactly the foundation of the Jedi system. However, due to it's lack of a blatantly spiritual nature, some would say it is more like Buddhism and less like Western religions. Others argue that it is based on an obviously false premise ("the Force"); this is no more or less valuable than an omniscient/omnipotent deity instilling an unprovable soul into humans. Side: yes
It is already recognized as a religion, but under the label "Buddhism". The only thing that separates them is in Buddhism, you try to create NO karma, don't do good, and don't do bad. The Jedi, though, serve other people. They are selfless, and by taking this position they create karma wether it be positive or negative, and they carry the burden of karma for the well being of other people. Basically though, it is a socialist buddhism. Side: Already a religion
