small change to the lyrics to John Lennon's song "Imagine" is causing a very big uproar

Cee Lo Green's small change to the lyrics to John Lennon's song "Imagine" is causing a very big uproar.

Charged with singing Lennon's famous solo-era tune on NBC's New Year's Eve show shortly before the ball dropped in Times Square , Green changed the lyrics from "Nothing to kill or die for, And no religion too" to "Nothing to kill or die for, And all religion's true."

The change didn't go unnoticed, and to preempt criticism, he soon tweeted, "Yo I meant no disrespect by changing the lyric guys! I was trying to say a world were u could believe what u wanted that's all."

That did little to comfort angered Lennon fans, who lashed out over Twitter. Watch the performance below (starting around 4:00) and then read the angry exchanges over Twitter.

UPDATE 9:49 AM: All of Green's tweets have been deleted from his account, but can still be seen below.

It's amazing how insecure people get about their beliefs when those beliefs are based on far-fetched fairy tales, word of mouth and require a weird mass hysteria in order to continue dominance.

God forbid an artist dare bring up the possibility their shared insanity is a destructive force in the world. They were right; best to sensor any dissent lest they are forced to think for themselves or conceive any idea outside of their indoctrinated comfort zone ><

What. Ok this song was written and sang by a really awesome person. The change may not be big but it isnt fair for someone to just change the lyrics like that. The song has been a classic for ages and for the people who like that song it may be a big thing. Like me. It is john Lennon's song and i hate it how cee lo just changed it and thought everyone would be 'cool about it'

I guess he assumed that John Lennon fans were laid back and more about not making a big deal out of simple words... since John Lennon preached that message.

I guess he was wrong. The fans are superficial and want something to rally behind.

No person that believes in God has any fucking right to sing this brilliant song!

Imagine there's no liberals

It's easy if you try

No defeat within us

No victims to watch cry

With hands out every day

Imagine there's no taxes

Sticking to you like glue

Noone to steal your paycheck

And smaller govmn't too

Imagine all the people

Enjoying eating steak

You may say they are screamers

Trying to take your guns

I hope someday you'll disjoin them

And the world can have some fun

Imagine my posessions

Really are mine

No need for killing babies

Keeping them alive

Imagine all the people

Loving everyone

You may say they are screamers

Trying to take your guns

I hope someday you'll disjoin them

And the world can have some fun

John Lennon was obviously a Liberal first of all. Second of all you are being a jackass. Third of all you are a dick.

I used to say that I wished that John Lennon was still alive so that I can shoot him myself.

Now, I don't hate John Lennon, but in all honesty... who cares? This is why I love talking shit about the man, because his fans are a bunch of faggots. Cee Lo Green replaces hippie lyrics with equally hippie lyrics and all of a sudden he's a monster!

John Lennon said the shit he said most of his remaining years because The Beatles all took a shit load of acid. Most hippies did. Acid makes everything way different, and until you take that shit for years in heavy doses, stop thinking that YOU would know what John Lennon would have wanted, or that he's even an inspiration to you.

And anything he said that wasn't acid inspired was just Marxist inspired, so give the credit to Marx, not Lennon. (lulz)

You don't write songs entitled " Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" in a clear state of mind...

Side: That bastard!

Not a big deal, it was a hippie song written by the biggest hippie, so current hippies like iamdavidh will slowly progress through the crying stage, and probably never get over it because it is their anthem.

Oh wow, whatever shall we do??? Someone changed a few words in a song?!?!?! THE WORLD IS GONNA EXPLODE!!!! Seriously, grow the fuck up. I like Lennon as much as the next guy, but come one, there are much more important things in the world than some shitty singer altering a song slightly. It's quite sad when people have such shitty boring lives that they feel the need to make such a big fuss out of something as minor as this.

Did Cee-Lo effectively change the meaning of the iconic song by changing the lyrics? Yes.

Should the incident be a media sensation? No.

Should America spend more time addressing issues that actually matter, such as our widespread apathy towards social justice or a natural environment that is being decimated by delusional capitalists who think our economy can infinitely expand despite our limited resources? Yes.

Will it matter in a month? No.

Well you fans on the left don't make sense.... You really only had two options: Cee Lo butchering the song as is or Cee Lo butchering the song in a dumbass move known as artistic interpretation. Clearly you should make a poll of you're favorite singers who suck no different than Cee Lo does and pick which one you would like to see butchering the damn song!
