the Billion vs the Billion
the title of this debate can be confusing but I have good reason to.
I recently read a book on mathematics and found out there are two different results for the number 1billion. the 2 defintions are this:
English billion 1,000,000,000,000
American billion 1,000,000,000
the American version is more commonly used now since the English use the word "milliard" to describe 1 followed by 9 zeros and apparently "billion soundes better than "milliard"

This debate has no merit on a debate because there are different standards of dictionary numbers that being Short scale (the apparent American Billion or aka Modern Scale) or Long Scale (The British Scale aka Continental Europe and Archaic British) Numbers Or Please see MIced response for details. Are you serious about downvoting because of that? First off, it makes more sense the American way as I had already explained. Second off, it's not even a big deal because when it comes down to it, your choice will probably be based on where you live. It's just a cultural thing, like feet instead of meters or Celsius instead of Fahrenheit. Side: American billion
