shigiru miamato (i didn't spell that right did i?) created mario to be "super human" he could fall from great hights without a scratch, break bricks and jump great heights, last a long time under water, and apparently survive being hit with fireballs repeatedly. sonic looses a life when he hits water...sad

Not true! Sure Mario takes on powerful bosses, but Sonic has taken on robots of every kind, Chaos (an embodyment of water that can get stronger with every chaos emerald he absorbs), the Dark Queen (the grandaughter of Merlin himself), Dark Gaia (a GOD that can rip the continents apart), Erazor Djinn (an all-powerful genie), Shadow (a mere image of Sonic himself), the Biolizard (the prototype of ultimate life form), the Time Eater (a villain that controls time and space), and Solaris (a freakin' sun god)!
Sonic has taken on alot tougher opponents than Mario.
She wanted him to have options and even earned an associate degree herself, so she would try to help him with anything he wasn't sure how to get started on, like taking the SATs or getting into college.
Pathetic? PATHETIC?! Sonic has many more attacks than Mario, including the Boost, Supersonic Running Speed, Durability, Agility and Reflexes, Hand-To-Hand Combat Skills, Chaos Control, Spin Attack, Spin Jump, Spin Dash, Spin Charge, Insta-Shield, Super Peel Out, Strike Dash, Jump Dash, Homing Attack, Light Dash, Ancient Light Attack, Sonic Wind, Triangle Jump, Blue Tornado, Super Boost, Bounce Attack, Mach Speed, Blue Tornado, Homing Smash, Axe Kick, Scale, Thunder Guard, Speed Break, Time Break, Somersault, Driving, Super Sonic Transformation, and Hyper Sonic Transformation.
And you know what Mario does?
HE JUMPS.
Plus, he can be killed in one hit (two if using a Super Mushroom.)

Sonic doesnt have hand to hand combat skills thats shadows thing plus your wrong Marios amazing you woudnt know that if he shot a fireball your head if your finished let me show you what Mario can do:Can jump ridicously high,has super strength,has super defending skills,can shoot fire balls,has mushrooms that turn him bigger,has a mushroom thats so huge it can turn him into a super giant,has the power of ice,can turn into a racoon that makes him glide through the,can use a star that turns him invincible for 20 secs,has the power to turn into a penguin which allows him to have ice powers and the power to stay on ice better and to swim better,has the helicopter power up which allows him to go up in to the air really high,can turn super teene tiny with the tiny mushroom and he can jump super high and he can run on water. Shall I go on if sonics so great as you say he is how come i played like almost all of his games and still thought Mario was best infact the best game I played of sonic was sonic unleashed.
And all of that requires powerups except jumping. Sonic doesn't even need hand-to-hand combat skills, he has his razor-sharp quills, and can extend his quills while moving at the speed of sound in a Spin Attack. He can jump nearly as high as Mario, jump off walls, surround himself in a powerful comet of energy that makes him invincible, shoot blue energy blasts, home in on his targets while using a spin jump, run up walls and across ceilings, and more. While Mario breaks bricks with his hands, Sonic uses energy blasts or his quills to slice through them like hot butter. He can use various powerups that allow him to send out enormous blasts of fire, fly, drill through the ground, use fast-moving laser attacks, create black holes, etc. Sonic can breathe in space, glide afer shooting himself up into the air, and navigate rough terrain with ease. He's an expert at tricky obstacles, being able to jump across platforms hanging from the bottom of a mile-high blimp that can barely support his weight. Destroying monitors grants him abilities such as transforming into a streaking comet of fire, breathing underwater, bouncing off walls and ceilings, and attracting rings. With a single Chaos Emerald, Sonic, like Shadow, can use Chaos Powers such as teleportation, rapid striking of enemies, shockwaves of power, and spears of radioactivity that can punch through steel. With seven Chaos Emeralds, Sonic can transform into an invincible, golden-hued version of himself who can fly and use Chaos Powers without Emeralds: Super Sonic. Seven Super Emeralds transform him into the underwater-breathing, light-controlling, indestructable Hyper Sonic. Plus, he's excellent at solving intellectual puzzles, demonstrated in Sonic X and Sonic Heroes. If Mario is smart, fast, strong, skilled, and absolutely fearless, Sonic is very intelligent, impossibly quick, nearly indestructable, enormously experienced, and unfalteringly optimistic. Plus, Mario dies in one to three hits. As long as Sonic has a single ring, and if he's good at recollecting rings, he can survive about two dozen hits.
Bull crap Sonic has power ups to retard only a few though besides atleast with a mushroom and a power up he has to get hit three times to die as for sonic two times with rings so shut up I win you lose get over it!
That's pretty sad when that's the only way Mario even stands a chance against Sonic is by his fans cheating for him. And besides, I hate to break it to you, but Sonic's still winning.
Mario can make fists of fireballs, grow taller and bigger, fly, become another mario (wario), has love (for the princess, and that's powerful), can smash little mushrooms, can break the hammerhead brothers in half, can destroy an evil turtle dinosaur and it really awesome. Sonic is cool too, but he cannot stop the wrath of the italian chubby man.
This is a great game for Christmas party. In this game you have to choose who is Mario and who is Sonic. You need to check this https://www.hamiltondemolition.co.nz/ and get more new skills for construction. You would choose either one of these two characters. If you can't decide or if someone asks what character they should use, just say it's your friend's decision, it's their decision.

I agree with you than Sonic would kick Mario's behind, but his speed and agility alone wouldn't be enough. He's probably have to bring in some of his special attacks too.
Sonic has way more abilities than just speed and agility. And how are Mario's coins and random floating platforms any different than Sonic's rings and random floating ramps?
Sure Mario is both iconic and a beast. But in a fight? Sonic all the way. Sonic has actually attacks and power, his greatest attribute being his speed which Mario couldn't keep up with. Mario can only jump.
No carz allowed, besides it is just a slow kart. Lol... Kart, can't Nintendo spell? Sonic can run at 760 mph, unless Mario's cart is a jet engine, It dont think it could beat Sonic.
First of all, no the kart isn't allowed. Next, no it can't go faster than Sonic. Sonic can run faster than the speed of sound. Last, if Mario gets help then so does Sonic which means he can become Super Sonic, which can fly and go even faster.
Sonic is better, all Mario's effective abilities require power ups. So what can Mario do? Stomp on things and break them, Sonic could easily doge it, Sonic wINS!!!!
Mario is stronger, but Sonic is faster and smarter
Mario can ONLY be tough when he has power-ups and help from other characters, but Sonic is tough WITH and WITHOUT those things
Mario can shoot fireballs, but Sonic can bring in his fire shield (which makes him fire proof)
Mario can turn metal, but Sonic can bring in his lightning shield (which is magnetic)
Mario can turn invincible, but Sonic can turn invincible too by grabbing an invincibility shield OR by turning into Super Sonic
Mario can fly, but Sonic can too when he turns into Super Sonic (which can also increase his speed up to the speed of light)
With that being said, Sonic can cancel out most of Mario's stats and bring in stuff of his own that Mario doesn't have like Excalibur, Super Emeralds, and a variety of Wisps that grant him all kinds of special abilities.
