why do atheists only target christianity
it seems that atheists who claim to hate religion only go after christianity why is that surely they know its not the only religion out there

I don't. Religious barbarism in certain Islamic countries is similar to that seen in the Dark Ages and the Inquisition. In other words, the way Christianity behaved hundreds of years ago is the way Islam is acting in several Muslim counties. And I think its disgusting that religion is still used to justify the atrocities it does in the Islamic world, and I think it's shameful it's not more frequently condemned. But there are very few Muslims on this site. I've never had a Muslim knock on my door during dinner to wave their holy book in my face. I've met a quite a few Muslims, but not many of them seemed overly concerned with the state of my eternal soul, and didn't task themselves with saving me. For these reasons I may target Christianity more than Islam, but I despise Islam even more than I do Christianity. 2

1)It's the Chrisitans ----not the Muslims, Hindu, or Jews--- that come pounding on my door at 8 o'clock on a Saturday morning, trying to win my soul for the Lord. 2) It's the Christians ---not the Muslims, Hindu, or Jews--- that love to put issues on the ballot based upon their religious beliefs. 3) It's because of the Christians ---not the Muslims, Hindu, or Jews--- that I can't even go near a mall during the months of December. 4) It's because of the Christians ---not the Muslims, Hndu, or Jews--- that I can't even go near a grocery store in the month of December, without some shaking a bell in my face and shaking me down for money. 5) It's because of the Christians--- not the Muslims, Hindu, or Jews--- that I have to flip through 15 channels of churches singing off key every time I turn on the cable. 6) It's the Christians ---not the Muslims, Hindu, or Jews--- that are always "praying for my soul" and half dozen other pieces of condescending horse shit. So. If you feel targeted as a Chrisitian, there is something you can do about it. QUIT BEING OBNOXIOUS!!!! ALL THE TIME!!! 1

Bible Belt, USA. And, yes, where I live Christians are in-your-face about it. But obnoxious people rarely wake up in the morning and say "hey, today I'm going to be obnoxious." They think they're doing the right thing. They think they're spreading gods word. But, seriously hardly a week goes by without someone knocking on my door from some sort of church. And, yes, I can hang a sign, but I should have to. And come Christmas, I'll get dirty looks for walking by the Salvation Army kettle without paying pittance. I don't have a problem with what anyone believes, but like I said, it's been a while since a Hindu's coming knocking on my door. I respect all people, but know when you're being obnoxious. 1

With all due respect, the Muslims haven't come knocking on my door recently. While just yesterday The Knights of Columbus were shaking me down for donations in the grocery store parking lot and giving me that snide, condescending look, when I refused to give them a dime. I'm not defending other religions, but the other religions AREN'T CONSTANTLY IN MY BUSINESS. I don't think I've ever had a rabbi come knocking on my door, asking me to convert and looking at me like I'm a piece of shit when I refuse to do so. Believe it or not, "going after" a particular religion doesn't occur until after a theist makes the debate usually... no seriously. There are way more religion debates started supporting a religion than ones started by an atheists with the proposition there is no god. The subject of the theist debate is "gone after"... and naturally most on this site who start said debates do so from a Christian perspective. I'll gladly debunk any religion however... no really. Tell me about Mohamed or reincarnation or tree spirits or Zeus... okay not Zeus. That dude has lightning. 1

It might just be that Christians are usually the majority religion where there are atheists around. BUT it would seem as though many atheist have this sort of annoyance with Christianity. Kind of in the same way liberals are annoyed with traditional american culture. That's just the way it's always looked from my perspective. |
