Most sane people would not just walk up and shoot you because other people would not approve and would punish them. This should not be a reason to support government. The reason we need government is because they protect your rights, not because they protect you. In anarchy someone will presume power, most likely someone of all ready high status or wealth. This person will not care about your rights. This person will not regulate what companies feed you. We need government because it protects our rights primary, not protecting us physically. You would also still be able to get what you need by way of rationing of bartering, or even looting. Society and order predates using imaginary currency and humans crave structure. Without someone taking over by force, we would probably just remake the government.

While it is clear that people can function with out a government, there should still be a government in place. The government exists to protect the natural rights of people, and so it should stand so as to be able to do its job. Without government, we would be in anarchy, and with anarchy the strongest and/or wealthiest would take over and rule with an iron hand. There would be no protection of ones natural rights, and the people under this rule would suffer greatly based on this. Government also protect people from bad business practices and regulates food and water. This is beneficial because companies are not people. They are profit machines. They will put anything in your food or water if it will make them more money or cost them less. The government makes it so companies can not put harmful chemicals in your food. They also keep harmful materials out of clothes. We need the government because it makes all of these regulations and they help keep/try to keep us safe.
