First of all we do not speak about the Middle East. In the Middle East the problem is not in polygamy, the problem is in the attitude to a woman in general. If somebody bann polygyny there people just will practice it illegal. Choice? According to the survey conducted by a popular local site, a lot of women in our country consider it acceptable to be a second wife. Mostly it is women who elder 30 because it is not simple to get marrie after 25 in our country. But also young women voted for legalization. As you see, I am talking about only KZ. The problem exists here and if you just say "I am against!" - it will not be solved.
Of course I understand that other countries have their own situations.
Look, this is not about democracy. Probable legalization of polygamy is not going to discriminate somebody, it is going to give an option for people who practice it illegally. Let's be realistic, another form of polygamy is not an issue in our region, right? We do not have such precedents. Nomads are not losing their traditions, the essence that everything changes, and our lifestyle also. But can you say with confidence that the issue is not actual?

I have read the opponent's opinion and agree with a lot of things but... I do not fully understand the question: Polygamy Should (or NOT) be Legalized - where??? I am not sure that it can be equally applied to the East and the West. It depends on traditions. Actually I do not no any religion, which promotes such marriages. I know those, in which polygamy is just acceptable, like a choice.
As for me, I believe that in Kazakhstan polygamy should be legalized. Illegal practice of polygamy is common in our country and it is often lead to bad consequences. For example if a husband dies his second wife is not able to claim inheritance because she is illegal. This is only one case. Anyway, such legalization is not promoting people to practice polygamy. It is just an opportunity for those who need it
Yes I don't like it. Human race is not ready to unite. Not in that way and not in next centuries. Tell this to native americans - indians. Love, prosperity and unity are very subjective things. What for one is love, for another can be perversion. Prosperity for one can be degradation for another. Unity for one - slavery for another. Western countries (cultures) frequently try to impose their values.
I care about my people, about my brothers and sisters. I care about next generations. We have to talk not only about genes, but also about traditions, outlook, language etc. It is clear that some ethnoses have stronger traditions than others and they just suppress them. Naturaly.
I am probably a good person but I haven't taken the time to fill out my profile, so you'll never know! |
