I vote no, for one simple reason. Creativity is not simply the act of creating art. Creativity is taking two unrelated subjects and connecting them to find the solution to a problem. Bentham, hen describing genius, said that true genius is the ability to show what has been there but not seen by combining two unlike things in some new way, aka, being creative. Schools should foster this type of creativity and critical thinking in students, because that is what will help them succeed. We want to advance and continue to progress at a rapid pace? Teach people how to relate and be creative. Even if you have to throw away the grades, because, except for a few projects or classes, those are simply a measure of how much information a student can regurgitate, not a measure of how well they can think. And, in the end, that is what matters.
I am probably a good person but I haven't taken the time to fill out my profile, so you'll never know! |
