It's not to claim responsibility per say, but to own up to the fact that even in this time many white people are not anti-racist, more so just not racist. This allows for a certain section of white people to claim "not all white people" but yet never do anything to call out the white people that actually are racist.

Why did white people take slaves and then suppress of them of basic rights after slavery was abolished?

Isn't this inherent racism and keeping it alive, by perpetuating the stereotype that black people are lazy and some of poor financial status all awhile ignoring the events of the past that have hindered black people from accumulating wealth. Example: Tulsa Race Riot.

I don't believe that's a fair illustration of either religion. The fundamental basis of religion is to use your faith to not only worship your god, but better yourself in all aspects of your life. Sadly, many individuals purposefully skew the message of religion for their agenda's.
