I'm not a staunch supporter of human cloning, even then, I'm opposed to the idea of abjuring the concept and technology of cloning merely because it would add on to the existing population, which is believed to be a huge burden on our resources. The future promises infinite opportunities, and bearing a broad perspective, it is not foolish to foresee humans living on other planets or in outer space, 100 years from now. In such a context, human cloning opens several hundered possibilities. Imagine that in the process of evolving the concept of cloning, we might be able to tap on the option of modifying DNA structure or altering genes to better allow human beings to adapt to alien environment. Probably, in future, humans might attempt to cross galaxies and travel distances equalling thousands of light years, presently deemed impossible. Again, using human clones successively, on-board, to carry on the journey might be a possible solution to the problem. All these examples might sound improbable now, but we cannot debunk their possibility in the future. After all, 100 years ago, who would have thought that someday we would land on the moon that is supposedly inhabited by a woman according to Chinese legends!
Having said all this, I'm against the idea of human cloning on ethical grounds, and believe that there's still a huge debate on moral sentiments to resolve. before we can garner popular support for human cloning.
I am probably a good person but I haven't taken the time to fill out my profile, so you'll never know! |
