China initially tried to avoid military confrontation, out of respect to India's ancient culture and sympathy that it had suffered a similar painful past of oppression by colonial powers. However, India's persistent provocation eventually breached China's bottom-line, and the People's Liberation Army joined the battle in self-defense.
There was a survey conducted by the TGIE (Tibetan exiles) in Tibet around 2008. 17,000 Tibetans were interviewed randomly, and only a fraction (29%) wanted independence. Also note that this was during a time when anti-China sentiment in Tibet was high due to unrest. I'm pretty sure Tibet won't be getting any "independence" soon.
greed(profit incentive) is fundamental to free market capitalism and freedom. greed combined with private ownership are the most important components of a free society. if you don't own something then you aren't free. if you're not able to keep the majority of the earnings that you work for then you're also not free.
