Hi, this is Farah from 2E3 =)
I disagree that online debating is more interesting than classroom debating. Firstly, in online debating there tend to be people who will continuously add comments that may be irrelevant to the debate. This include vulgarities, offending other people or gossiping. This may not help for the debate to go on smoothly and in a correct manner.
Secondly, online debating requires views and perspective from different people, and such that there isn't any chairperson and timer, there will be a tendency to copy one another's answers. Also, some people will be inactive and not participate or take a longer time to answer, disabling the teacher to decide on the winner in a faster period of time.
Thirdly, online debating is unable to train students to be more responsive, to project their voice or to encourage group work. This does not help people, especially the quieter ones, to be participative in orals. This also disables them to speak smartly in the future.
Therefore, I think that online debating is not as interesting as classroom debating. =DDD
I am probably a good person but I haven't taken the time to fill out my profile, so you'll never know! |
