The viewpoint of Persian Historian Juvaini
Entering the service of Hulego Khan, I was appointed as governor of Iraq and Khuzistan after the fall of Baghdad. I was paid well by the Mongols and looked up to Hulego. I wrote about them, their enemies, and their successors.
Killed up to 40 million people in Eurasia (10% of the world)
If one person in one of his units disappeared/escaped the whole unit would be slaughtered.
The Mongols ripped unborn children from the mother’s womb, and used prisoners as human shields or moat fillers to support siege engines.
Allowed landowners to keep their land if they pledged loyalty
Women could control domestic affairs, divorce their husbands, and be trusted advisors
The Mongols promoted soldiers based on merit instead of birth.
