I think God would rather you be a moral person, even if you don't follow Christianity

It depends how you look at it. In my opinion, technology is making our society both lazy and stupid. Devices like TV's and IPhone's provide us with any information we need, so we know what is going on, but there is no reason to think beyond what the device is telling us. We don't have abstract thoughts, or think for ourselves anymore.

In my opinion, being a moral person trumps being religious. Anybody can be "religious." Jeffery Dahmer was baptized and considered himself a Christian, does that mean he is going to heaven? In my opinion God would rather you be a moral person, and live an honest, compassionate life, rather than claim to be religious while sinning. Even if you have never been to Church.

I can see it clear as day. Every government, regardless of how it begins, slowly transforms towards a socialist state, or straight to a totalitarian state. The main objective of any government is to remain in power. Our government is supposedly "for the people, of the people," but it is that way no longer.
