The younger generation nowadays tend to focus on gadgets. I've seen kindergarten kids using Facebook and crying because parents will not allow them to use phones. Due to this way of upbringing, it is what makes the new generation more focused on social media and the internet compared to proper interaction.

As most people can see in public, most people on public transport or having meals have their phones checking social media platforms. What is the point of meeting like that or having meal together if you are not even looking at the person?

1 point

Due to the convenience of social media, it is the reason why people are not spending time to understand the importance of real life communication and socializing.

0 points

In the modern era, the time people spend on social media is increasing. I know people who would rather stay at home and talk to strangers on social media or even gaming sites than to go outdoors and communicate with friends face-to-face. Some friends even talk so much on social media that they have nothing to talk about when they actually meet face-to-face.

In what way did Farquhar contribute more? Please state examples.

Raffles also knew Malay and communicated with the people, so why can't he be also considered as the founder?

5 points

Raffles was the one who came to Singapore in 1819 and improved it by setting up trade. He improved the economy which is very important to a country.

4 points

He revived the cultural heritage of the region by setting up schools for the Chinese and Malays and did a lot for the people while Farquhar just wanted to gain control through his actions.

4 points

When Raffles came back after a period of time, he changed rules and concepts Farquhar had set according to the people’s needs. This can show that he cares for the people.
